Rates hit their lowest point in more than a month this week. Here’s how we got there.

Monday and Tuesday were quiet. Rates barely moved while everyone waited on the Fed.
Wednesday the Fed held steady, as expected, and rates barely noticed.

Thursday was the turn. Cautious tech earnings pushed investors toward the safety of bonds, and rates slid to their lowest level since late September.

Rates are still higher than most of us would like, and one good day doesn’t change the math overnight. But a calmer market is a good time to know exactly where you stand.

Rates caught a little relief this week. Here’s what was behind it.

Monday started on the wrong foot, with rates ticking higher. Midweek was quiet and mostly sideways. Then Thursday brought a sharp tech selloff, and rates dropped to near one-month lows.

The driver wasn’t a big economic report. It was investors getting nervous about how much is being spent on AI, and moving money into the safety of bonds. When demand for those bonds rises, rates tend to fall.

Rates are still hard to plan around, and one good week doesn’t change that. But if you’ve been watching and waiting, this is a good time to know exactly where you stand. 📊
