If you run into a situation where you need to be a co-signer on a loan for a family member, significant other, etc, just say no! If you have to be on the loan, make yourself the primary borrower on the account and have them co-sign. Either way you are still responsible for the loan, however if there are any account or payment issues being the primary guarantees that the bank reaches out to you and you're not caught off guard.
