Florida Legislators are busy in their third week of this year's session. Lots of insurance industry-related Bills are under consideration. Compiled by IIANF Board Member, Conor O'Leary with Shelly, Middlebrooks & O'Leary, below is a mid-week update of Bills and happenings.
** Yesterday (01/27) in Senate Rules, they temporarily postponed SB 290, the Commissioner of Agriculture’s package, over concerns related to contractors and food disparagement proposals. This prompted a Twitter/X backlash from the Commissioner on his Senate Presidential successor, the current Rules Chair.
** Senate Banking & Insurance meets at 10:30 today (01/28). There are amendments pending on several bills, including SB 772 Portable Electronics & Eyewear and SB 1504 Insurance Customer Representative Licensing Qualifications.
** Tomorrow (01/29) at 8am, House Civil Justice meets and takes up HB 1337 re: estates, as well as two bills that erode Florida 2023 tort legislation, HB 1553 (with PCS amendment) on Evidence of Medical Damages and HB 1423 Presumption Against Liability for Owners and Principal Operators of Multifamily Residential Properties.
** House Insurance & Banking has also released their agenda for tomorrow (01/29), which includes bills on legal tender, insurance licensing, and more.
** At 3pm tomorrow (01/29), House Government Operations takes up a bills on salvage certificates of title for cars, motor vehicle registration renewal, and others.
