The numbers are hard to ignore: severe convective storms produced more than $51 billion in insured losses in 2025 alone, marking the third consecutive year losses exceeded $50 billion, according to Gallagher Re. From 2005 through 2022, only two years even crossed the $40 billion mark.
Hail alone accounts for as much as 80% of all SCS-related insurance claims, and NOAA recorded 5,430 hail events in 2025. These aren't outlier years. This is the new normal.
