Celebrating Team Unity's Summer Interns 🎓

This summer, Unity National Bank of Houston had the privilege of welcoming two bright, driven interns — Maverick Scruggs and Aaron Hunter — who brought energy, curiosity, and fresh perspective to our team.

Maverick is pursuing a Business Administration degree with a focus in Finance at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and will begin his junior year this fall (expected graduation Spring 2028). Aaron is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at Houston Christian University right here in Houston, and will begin his senior year this fall (expected graduation Fall 2027).

Investing in the next generation of leaders is part of who we are. As the only African American-owned bank headquartered in Texas, we're proud to open doors for young talent and to play a part in these students' journeys.

Guided by its mission to amplify Black voices and empower the next generation, the association champions excellence in journalism and fair, balanced coverage of the communities we all call home.

Exciting news for our city: Houston will host the 2027 NABJ Convention & Career Fair, August 4–8, 2027 — welcoming thousands of journalists and media professionals from across the country.

On August 16, 1963, our doors first opened as Riverside National Bank — a joyous occasion where neighbors gathered to open accounts and build their financial futures. In 1989, the bank was acquired by local African American business leaders and became Unity National Bank of Houston: one of the few Black-owned banks in the nation and a proud Minority Depository Institution.

For 63 years, our mission has remained the same — to provide equitable access to the banking system and to serve those who have too often been underserved, unbanked, and underbanked. From our roots in Houston to full-service branches in Missouri City and Atlanta, that commitment has never wavered.
