🚗💥 ACCIDENTS HAPPEN… DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT?

Nobody plans on being in a car accident, but knowing what to do can make a stressful situation a little easier!

Here are 6 important reminders if you’re ever involved in an accident:

🚨 1. Check for Injuries – Make sure everyone is okay. Call 911 if anyone is injured or emergency assistance is needed.

🚗 2. Get Somewhere Safe – If possible and safe to do so, move your vehicle out of traffic and turn on your hazard lights.

📸 3. Take Pictures – Document the damage to all vehicles, license plates, road conditions, and the accident scene.

📝 4. Exchange Information – Get the other driver’s name, contact information, insurance details, and license plate number.

👮 5. Contact the Police – Report the accident when required and ask how to obtain a copy of the accident report.

🍂 Heading Out of Town for Fall Break? 🏡✈️

Whether you’re headed to the beach, the mountains, or just getting away for a few days, take a few minutes to protect your home before you leave!

A few simple things can help prevent an unwanted surprise — or insurance claim — while you’re gone:

🔒 Lock all doors & windows — including garages and side doors.
💧 Check for leaks around toilets, sinks, washing machines & water heaters.
🚰 Consider shutting off your main water supply if you’ll be gone for an extended period.
🌡️ Don’t turn off your HVAC — keep your home at a reasonable temperature.
💡 Put a few lights on timers so the house doesn’t look empty.
📦 Pause mail & packages or have a neighbor pick them up.
📹 Check cameras & security systems before leaving.
🔥 Unplug unnecessary appliances & electronics.
👀 Ask someone you trust to check on the house, especially if you’ll be gone several days.

🚗🏠 Think you know what your insurance covers? You might be surprised.

One of the biggest reasons we encourage people to review their insurance isn’t just to save money — it’s to make sure you actually understand what you’re paying for.

Here are a few common insurance misunderstandings we hear in Tennessee:

❌ “My homeowners insurance covers flooding.”
Not necessarily! Standard homeowners policies generally do NOT cover flood damage.

❌ “Replacement Cost and Actual Cash Value are basically the same.”
BIG difference. Actual Cash Value takes depreciation into account, while Replacement Cost coverage generally pays based on what it costs to replace damaged property today, subject to your policy terms and limits.

❌ “If I have full coverage on my car, everything is covered.”
“Full coverage” isn’t one specific insurance coverage. Your protection depends on the liability limits, comprehensive, collision, uninsured/underinsured motorist and other coverages actually included in your policy.

❌ “The cheapest insurance quote is always the best deal.”
Saving money is great — but not if you find out after a claim that you gave up important coverage. Tennessee’s Department of Commerce & Insurance specifically advises consumers not to consider premium alone when reviewing insurance.
