With more freezing temps and leftover storm issues this week, we will continue to work remotely today, Wednesday, January 28th. Below are a few quick insurance tips in case you run into any home or vehicle damage.
1) Trees & Property Damage
If a tree falls and damages your home, fence, or other structures, insurance typically covers both the damage and tree removal. Take photos and save receipts if you’ll be filing a claim. If a tree falls in your yard with no damage, cleanup usually isn’t covered.
2) Whose Claim Is It?
Claims go with the damaged property — not where the tree came from.
-Your tree hits their house/vehicle = their claim
-Their tree hits your house/vehicle = your claim
3) If Your Home Is Damaged
Whether it’s frozen pipes, falling trees, or storm issues:
You are allowed to take action to prevent further damage.
-Call a local contractor for any immediate action needed to stop and prevent further damage
-Take plenty of photos and notes
-Call our office before filing
4) Patience Goes a Long Way
Insurance teams and contractors are working nonstop during storms —expect a little delay in normal response times. We are having daily conference calls and will relay all information that is available.
5) Before Filing a Claim, Ask Yourself:
-Is this clearly storm-related?
-Does it exceed my deductible?
Stay home, stay warm, stay safe, and check on your neighbors.
