Great article from The Guardian...

Is this what you want for your children?

I spoke yesterday with an attorney struggling to provide care for her mom, which is increasingly interfering with her life and her practice. She is taking time from work and family to help mom. Her mother cannot afford Assisted Living and does not yet qualify for a Nursing Home.

On Monday a client shared with me that a friend's husband is suffering with Parkinsons. He cannot be left alone. Her friend, his spouse, is his constant companion and care provider, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Friends have offered to help, so she can run some errands or go to a coffee shop for an hour but she doesn't want to burden them. She is worried that if she brings in paid help she will not be left with enough for her future!!!

These are real stories.

Would Long-term Care Insurance help?

Depending upon how the poilicy is structured there could be money for non-professional caregivers (ie family) and there would definitely be money for home health aids and assisted living.

Leverage. Pay a bit now for the freedom/ability to spend more later. That is all LTCi is.

Enrollment Caps and what they mean for you...and me!

Rather then a plan being available for the entirety of Open Enrollment plans can cap how many they are allowing in and when it is full that's it!

Like scoring concert tix!

Snooze you lose and you are stuck with what's left :-(

Medicare Missive...from the Pond

Welcome to Open Enrollment 2026 the
1. "Snooze you Lose"
or
2. "The Concert Ticket Experience"
Open Enrollment.

on Friday night Medicare announced that they are allowing carriers to put a cap on the number of enrollments they accept during open enrollment.

what this means for you is that if you snooze you will most likely lose!

just like buying a ticket for a hot concert those who act first get the tickets those who wait buy from scalpers and pay more!

while I understand the logic behind this decision it puts you the beneficiary in a difficult spot let's say you like a plan in October but aren't ready to make a decision that plan may be full and have a waiting list when you are ready to enroll!

at that point you'll be left with whatever still has availability and no doubt they will be less attractive more expensive offerings.

get help and act early or you may be very disappointed.

If your Dr knows so much about Medicare why do they hire me to help them?

Worked with a Dr and his wife. He is about to retire from MGB and said from the start that they want to be on the MGB Advantage Plans until I showed him why she doesn't.

Enrollednhim in MGB amd her in a Medigap which is more appropriate given her medical needs.

Call for help!

Medicare Missive...from Baltimore Inner Harbor

Saturday Aetna sent an email saying that as of September 16th they are NOT paying commissions on new business on some popular plans!

Think about it...this represents a mid-year change, to an existing product, effective in a couple of weeks.

The plans are popular because they are good.

This brings me to why this matters to YOU...many Brokers are paid commissions by the Carrier...but if they stop paying commissions are they still being offered?

My fee-based model is transparent and eliminates the questions about where a commissioned Broker's loyalties lie.

It isn't a question of honesty! It is a question of survival. Mo one can work for free!
