Medicare Missive...from the Pond

As traditional Advantage Plans decline is it finally time for the Medicare Savings Account (MSA) to gain prominence?

Several years ago a healthcare think tank predicted the rise of the MSA.

For a mumber of reasons that forecast was delayed.

Now as traditional Advantage Plans lose appeal the flexibility (no Networks!), the Net Monthly Cost (-$150) and the ability to save tax-free dollars in an account you control that rolls over each year(!) males these plans very unique and very attractive.

Want to learn more reach out and we can talk about the Pros/Cons and if it is for you.

Revisiting a video from last week.

88yo woman with a $345/mo Medigap Plan F and a $155/mo Drug Plan! No Government assistance...she never applied!

Switched the Medigap to Plan G saving almost $100/mo but she now has to pay the deductible bringing net saving for year to around $900!

Will switch the Drug Plan from $155/mo to $8/mo saving almost $150/mo or nearly $1800/yr!

The New plan will also save her $10/mo on her med copays!

Finally, we applied for MaHealth and tried to apply for LIS (Federal) but needed to call SS who scheduled an Appt for this morning.

When all is done she will be far better off financially, have less stress about bills and be able to fill her scripts at the local CVS rather than mail order from Canada.

Why did she wait so long to do this???

No one told her she needed to! :-(

Call for assistance.

The importance of Provider Networks.

When choosing an Advantage Plan (or ACA Plan) the network is crucial.

Unfortunately, an increasing number of Provider Networks are opting out leaving Policyholders suddenly without the network they based their coverage selection on.

Even those with plans that allow someone to go out of network, it means higher out-of-pocket costs and higher maximum out-of-pocket costs...by $1000s!

Currently losing your Provider does NOT give you a Special Enrollment Period so you are stuck until Open Enrollment.

Be careful, check the network, but even stull you are not protected from the potential of losing your in-network Dr.

The importance of getting help, updating your plans and saving money.

Eighty-eight year old widow called about canceling her Medicare because she cannot afford the new premium.

Rather than leave her woth inadequate coverage meeting Friday to update her plans, save her at least $100/mo and apply for assistance which she most likely qualifies for but has never tried.

Great news foe those taking GLP-1s for weight loss.

Starting July1st the GLP Bridge Program will guarantee a copay for $50/mo to anyone with ANY active Part D Medicare Plan.

Somethings to keep in mind...
1. It is not guaranteed you need to qualify
2. You cannot enroll your Dr must enroll you
3. You must qualify based on BMI and co-morbities
4. It is a temporary program. Starting in Jan you must have a participating Part D Plan chosen during Open Enrollment in the Fall.
5. It is NOT being run through your Part D plan. Co-paysbl do not count towards deductible or total out-of-pocket.

Great program for those taking Wegovy or Zepbound.

"My Medicare Advisor works for free"

I am guessing that if you've made it this far in life you know that's not true.

The real question is how are they paid and who is paying them!

had an online discussion with somebody who was recommending a broker she used because they're free she agreed that they must be getting paid but it doesn't cost her anything. the problem is when you go on the broker's website it says that their agents are not commissioned it however doesn't say the agency is not commissioned so who is getting paid by whom and under what model.

I would argue this is important information for you to know because it builds biases into the system and while you're not paying any more for the policy it still may be a more expensive policy than you otherwise would have chosen.
