A prolonged stretch of bitter cold is about to settle in, temperatures are likely to stay below freezing for an extended period. That means melting will be slow, and impacts could linger for several days after the storm ends. Cold like this can be hard on plumbing, so now is the time to prepare.

Steps to help prevent frozen pipes:
• 🚰 Let faucets stream slowly (especially on exterior walls)
• 🚪 Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• 🧊 Cover or insulate exposed pipes, outdoor spigots, and crawl spaces
• 🔥 Keep your thermostat set to the same temperature day and night
• 🏠 Seal drafts around doors, windows, and where pipes enter the house
• ❄️ If leaving town, never turn the heat off, set it no lower than 55°

A little prep now can save you big headaches later. I’ve definitely been there before.

“We had a small number of family members come through that had lost loved ones to su***de who shared their stories and tears with us and their thanks for putting this together to bring awareness and hopes that maybe it would prevent one more from giving in and one less family to have to endure the tragedy."
Among the things Steven Thomas wanted to do during his term as The American Legion Department of Oklahoma commander was to raise awareness and help prevent veteran su***de.
