It's the International Day of Charity, and a good excuse to feature one of the local organizations we support!

Piedmont Technical College is a comprehensive two-year college that both uplifts students and strengthens our community by providing opportunities for intellectual and economic growth.

We have been supporting Piedmont Tech for decades, whether that is teaching students the budgeting basics or helping to fund new buildings on campus. Alongside the Countybank Foundation, we recently contributed $25,000 to support the expansion of the college’s Family Life & Conference Center on the Lex Walters Campus in Greenwood.

Historically, September is usually the worst month for stocks. And while earnings season delivered another round of impressive results, the market faces a few potential pitfalls ahead, from renewed tensions in the Middle East to upcoming midterm elections. In this month’s First Week video, Walter explains the recent market gains, potential Fed activity, and what you should be watching if things get choppy.

What does the economic landscape look like for businesses, investors, and the Greer community in the year ahead?

Walter Todd recently joined Daniel Davis, Group Vice President for Regional Economics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, for a fireside chat at the Greer Chamber's annual State of the Economy luncheon.

While attendees left with valuable economic insights on how current trends may impact rural areas, we're still waiting on the answer to everyone's favorite question: "Is the Fed going to hike rates?"

Congratulations! If you've been following along, you have completed the hard work of compiling the information you need to create your will. All that is left is to make some calls.

1. Schedule a meeting with your financial advisor. They can incorporate your wealth transfer goals into your financial plan. This can include tax strategy, gifting assets, and setting up accounts for trusts.

2. Call your attorney. They can help you create or update legal documents to make sure everything aligns with your goals and wishes.

3. Meet with your family. Discuss your plans with your trusted loved ones! You can let them know where your central file (Day 4) is located and encourage them to make their own plans.

- Day 4 of our week-long series! Use the lists you created on Days 1-3 to create a central file. Gather both hard copies and create a well-encrypted digital file of all the important legal and financial documents that will inform your estate plan. These range from identification and medical documentation to proof of account holdings or property ownership and beyond. Ensure all legal documents are filed with the required parties and maintain these records in a secure place.

- Day 3 of our week-long series!
A major component of estate planning is preparing proper legal documents. Today, start by making a note of what you already have in place and what legal documents you may need to update or create.

This will make it easier when you consult with an estate planning attorney on which documents you will and won’t need to file. We recommend you discuss your wishes with an attorney who can help you determine how to title assets, update beneficiaries, or create gifting strategies both during your lifetime and at your passing. Although everyone should prepare a will, not every estate plan calls for every kind of document.
