I don’t watch much golf. In fact, I’m not really “worth watching golf.”
But this weekend, I turned on the Ryder Cup—and I couldn’t look away.
Why? One word: intensity.
What struck me wasn’t just the skill of the players (they’re pros, that’s expected). It was the reciprocity of intensity between the fans and the players. The fans fed the players energy, the players answered with intensity, and the cycle repeated—building into something bigger than the game itself.
It got me thinking: that intensity—the give-a-** factor—is everything.
In business, I’ve seen it firsthand. The people who bring that fire rise, excel, and thrive. The ones who don’t? They often drift from role to role, never quite finding traction.
It doesn’t matter how high your SAT score was, which degree you hold (if any), or whether you have 2 years or 20 years of experience. Those things are distant seconds.
The differentiator is intensity.
The willingness to care.
The drive to bring energy and create momentum.
Watching it play out in golf was inspiring. Living it every day in business is non-negotiable.
Who on your team has that fire? 🔥
