AARP Smart Driver Course

Because nobody wants to learn about roundabouts the hard way.
The Lake County Farm Bureau is excited to once again host the popular AARP Smart Driver Course — designed especially for drivers age 50+ who want to stay sharp, safe, and confident behind the wheel (and maybe save a little money on insurance while they’re at it).

Tuesday, October 6 & Wednesday, October 7
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. each day
Lake County Farm Bureau Office
70 US Hwy 45, Grayslake

Let’s face it — cars today practically need a computer science degree to operate. Between backup cameras, blind spot sensors, lane alerts, touchscreens, and intersections designed by people who apparently hate left turns, driving has changed a lot over the years. This course helps you keep up with today’s roads without needing your grandkids to explain dashboard buttons.
The AARP Smart Driver Course has helped more than 15 million drivers since 1979 by teaching practical, research-based defensive driving techniques and updated rules of the road.

Participants will learn:
How to reduce dangerous blind spots
Safe following distances (tailgating NASCAR-style is discouraged)
Better techniques for lane changes and busy intersections
How newer vehicle technology actually works
The effects medications and distractions can have on driving
How to evaluate your own driving skills and habits

And yes — completing the course may qualify you for a multi-year automobile insurance discount. (Check with your COUNTRY Financial representative for details.)
☕ Coffee and water will be provided.
🥨 Feel free to bring snacks and beverages.
🍴 There will not be a lunch break.
💲 Cost:
• $20 for AARP members
• $25 for non-members

Please bring:
Your AARP card or membership number
Payment by cash or check payable to AARP
(Please note: no debit or credit cards accepted.)

At the completion of the 8-hour course, participants will receive a certificate to submit to their insurance company for a possible discount on the liability portion of their auto insurance.
Space is limited — and previous classes filled up quickly — so don’t wait until your GPS starts arguing with you to sign up.
To register or ask questions, contact Information Director Andy Blaul at 847-223-6506 or email [email protected].

A great couple of days hosting our Farm Bureau friends from Macon County Farm Bureau as they spent time with their adopted legislator, Senator Adriane Johnson, and toured her Lake County district. Stops included American Place Casino, Lambs Farm and the College of Lake County Urban Farm. We were also proud to present Senator Johnson with the Illinois Farm Bureau ACTIVATOR Friend of Agriculture Award for her support of Illinois agriculture and farm families. It’s always great to collaborate, share Lake County and strengthen connections between our urban, suburban and rural communities. We truly value our relationship with Senator Johnson and our friends at the Macon County Farm Bureau!
