Wondering if Medicare covers hearing aids?

Here's what most people don't learn until they're at the checkout counter: Original Medicare (Parts A & B) does NOT cover hearing aids or the exams to fit them. That's been the rule since 1965.

But you're not out of options. Here's where to look:

✅ Medicare Advantage plans — many include a hearing benefit with an allowance toward aids (check the plan details, they vary a lot)

✅ Over-the-counter hearing aids — available without a prescription for mild to moderate loss, often starting around a couple hundred dollars

✅ Medicaid — may cover aids if you're dual-eligible (varies by state)

✅ VA benefits — often cover hearing aids for qualifying veterans

✅ HSA/FSA dollars — pay for aids with pre-tax money

There are a few important hearing support options that Medicare DOES cover: doctor-ordered diagnostic hearing exams, one audiologist visit a year, and surgically implanted devices like cochlear implants, when medically necessary.

One myth to clarify: Medigap doesn't cover hearing aids either, since it only fills gaps in what Original Medicare already pays for.

An HSA (Health Savings Account) is a tax-advantaged account that helps you save for qualified medical expenses—now or in the future. How it works:

✅ You make tax-free contributions to the account
✅ Make tax-free withdrawals for qualified medical expenses
✅ You own the account—it stays with you even if you change jobs or retire

📌 Tip: To contribute, you must be enrolled in a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

You can use HSA dollars to pay for:
✔️ Copays & deductibles
✔️ Dental & vision care
✔️ Prescription drugs
✔️ Medicare premiums and expenses (after age 65)

Have questions about how your HSA fits into your health care and Medicare planning? We’re here to help!

Your ACA Marketplace premium probably went up this year. You're not imagining it.

For the past few years, extra financial help called the enhanced premium tax credit lowered Marketplace premiums for a lot of people. That help ran from 2021 through 2025 and expired on January 1, 2026.

Now the older rules are back, including the "subsidy cliff."

Here's how it works. If your household income goes above 400% of the federal poverty level, you no longer qualify for a premium tax credit. For 2026, that line sits around $62,600 for one person and $84,600 for two.

Older, middle income households have felt this the most. A 60-year-old couple earning about $85,000 sits just over the cliff. Their estimated yearly premium for 2026 could reach roughly $22,600, close to a quarter of their income.

If you're not sure where you stand this year, here's what can help:

- Review your options during open enrollment
- Compare plan levels, since a higher deductible plan might lower your monthly cost
- Estimate your income carefully before you enroll
- Talk to a licensed agent about your specific numbers

The subsidy cliff is real, and it can be steep. But you still have options. We are here to help!

Here is her message about sweet Winnie: This is Winnie our 3 year old Corgi 🐾 She is our little low-rider with a heart of gold and ears that can hear a treat wrapper from a mile away! She’s a professional tennis ball retriever, she thinks every dog and human she meets on the sidewalk is her new best friend in the whole wide world, she loves zooming after her kitty sister in silly games of tag, and when the day is done, she turns into a sleepy loaf of bread who demands maximum snuggles from mom and dad ♥️

If someone calls and already knows your name, your age, and your address, that does not make them legitimate. Criminals often start with information they already have and only need one more piece from you.

Medicare-related scam calls have climbed sharply over the past year. Some people report getting dozens in a single day. The pitches are predictable once you know them. Your card is expiring. You qualify for unclaimed benefits. A free brace or hearing aid is on the way.

They all want the same thing: your Medicare number.

A few things to remember: Medicare generally contacts you by mail first and does not call to ask for your Medicare number or bank information. A real licensed agent will give you their name and license number without hesitation, and will not push you to decide today.

If someone claims to be from an agency, hang up and call that agency's main number yourself. Anyone honest will not mind.
