What do you mean your agent thought, "sure, carry $100,000 of UMPD (uninsured motorist property damage)" on a 2001 Honda Accord? Sorry, but that makes me mad. That's a cash grab.

As agents, we need to do a better job explaining how losses get covered, and whether it makes financial sense (not emotional sense) to carry certain coverage when those benefits will never be realized come claim time.

If you share custody of a teenage driver and they drive your vehicles regularly, even if it's not every day, consider adding them to your policy.

Some policies will only offer minimum state liability limits if an undisclosed driver is involved in an accident in a vehicle on your policy, regardless of the high limits or umbrella you carry.

Be cautious of, "I'd just like an adjuster to take a look." Regardless of how benign the intention, that is a claim.

Regardless of what an agent tells you, this claim will stay on your loss report for quite some time, and it can affect your eligibility to change carriers.

Solution: find out what your deductible is. If it's a wind/hail claim, find out which settlement method applies, replacement cost or actual cash value. And lastly, what's the repair or replacement estimate from your contractor? All of this needs to be sorted out BEFORE submitting a claim, to best determine if doing so makes sense.

I recently got a new flock of chickens, six white leghorns. These aren't the cluckers that like to be held, much less cuddled, like some of the other breeds I've had in the past.

The white leghorn is the most widely used commercial breed for extra large white eggs, so this flock is all about production. When I start getting more eggs than the family can eat, I'm definitely gonna start calling policyholders to come grab some at their renewal lol.

Often times customers will get a solicitation for an incredibly low offer, with details about their home that are just ludicrous. I'm talking homes that should be insured for $500,000, quoted at half the coverage, with everything builders grade, the highest deductibles, and everything paid out on depreciation.

These rates may also include discounts the insurer isn't even eligible for. I get the strategy from an agent's perspective, anything to get the phones to ring, but goodness gracious, buyer beware.
