📬 WHAT IS THIS IRS LETTER? — CP14

You opened your mail and the IRS says you owe money. Now what?

Meet CP14. Balance Due.

This is generally the IRS’s first notice telling you that it believes you have an unpaid tax balance.

Don’t panic. And don’t automatically pay it without reviewing it.

Ask:

🔹 Is the balance correct?
🔹 Were all payments properly credited?
🔹 Are penalties included?
🔹 Can you afford to pay it in full?
🔹 If not, what options do you have?

Don’t ignore an IRS notice. But don’t be afraid of it either.

Understanding the notice is the first step toward knowing what to do next.

🚨 New IRS Penalty Relief!

Did you know the IRS has introduced a new Automatic Exemption from Penalty (AEP)?

Previously, eligible taxpayers generally had to ask the IRS for First Time Abate penalty relief.

Now, for eligible returns, the IRS can automatically provide certain penalty relief when you have a history of filing and paying on time.

Think you may qualify? Don't assume your IRS penalties are set in stone.

There may be options for getting them reduced or removed.

Meeting with an IRS Revenue Officer? Don't go alone.

If an IRS Revenue Officer has contacted you or scheduled a meeting, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is meeting with them without professional representation.

A Revenue Officer's job is to collect delinquent taxes. What you say, and the documents you provide and sign, can have a significant impact on your case. Once information is provided, it can't be taken back.

Before you:
• Attend a meeting
• Answer detailed financial questions
• Provide bank statements or financial records
• Sign any IRS documents

Make sure you understand your rights and your options.

If you've been contacted by an IRS Revenue Officer, don't face it alone. The right representation can make a meaningful difference in the outcome of your case.

Think you can't afford to hire a professional bookkeeper?

You can't afford not to. Especially if you have employees.

When you have employees, you're responsible for:
✅Accurate payroll
✅Payroll tax deposits
✅Sales tax compliance
✅Financial reporting
✅Proper recordkeeping

We see it all the time. Mistakes can lead to IRS penalties, state notices, cash flow problems, and hours of cleaning up records that should have been right from the start. A trained bookkeeper can keep your business out of trouble with the IRS.

Hire someone with the training and experience to protect your business.

What is a CSED? 🤔

If you owe the IRS, one of the most important dates you've probably never heard of is the CSED.

CSED = Collection Statute Expiration Date

This is the date the IRS's legal time to collect a tax debt expires. In most cases, the IRS has 10 years from the date the tax is assessed to collect the balance.

But here's the catch. It's not always exactly 10 years.

Certain events can pause or extend the collection period, including:
✔️ Filing bankruptcy
✔️ Submitting an Offer in Compromise
✔️ Living outside the U.S. for an extended period
✔️ Certain Collection Due Process (CDP) hearings
✔️ Other situations allowed by law

That's why knowing your actual CSED is critical before making decisions about:
• Installment Agreements
• Offers in Compromise
• Currently Not Collectible status
• Paying off a tax debt

Every tax year has its own CSED, so if you owe for multiple years, each balance may expire on a different date.

If you have IRS tax debt, don't guess. Understanding your CSED could make a significant difference in your resolution strategy.

Have questions about your IRS collection options? Call TaxResolve LLC today. We're happy to help.

🚗 IRS Announces New Mileage Rates Effective July 1, 2026

The IRS has increased the standard mileage rates for the second half of 2026 due to rising fuel costs.

Thinking About Hiring Your First Employee?

Hiring your first employee is an exciting milestone. But it also means taking on new IRS and State payroll tax responsibilities.

At TaxResolve LLC, we often work with business owners who didn't realize the importance of staying current with payroll tax filings and deposits until IRS notices started arriving.

Before you hire, make sure you have a plan for:
✔️ Proper payroll tax withholding
✔️ Timely federal tax deposits
✔️ Filing required payroll tax returns
✔️ Issuing Forms W-2 at year-end

A little planning now can help you avoid costly penalties later.

If you have questions about payroll tax compliance or have fallen behind on payroll tax filings, TaxResolve LLC is here to help.

Not every tax problem needs a settlement.

In FY 2025, the IRS established over 3.1 million new installment agreements.

Why?

Because for many taxpayers, a payment plan is the most realistic and effective solution.

Tax resolution isn’t about chasing the flashiest option.
It’s about finding the right one.
