Time is running out for millions of taxpayers to claim their share of billions in pandemic-era IRS refunds.

Following the Kwong v. United States decision, individuals and businesses who paid penalties or interest between 2020 and 2023 must file IRS Form 843 by July 10, 2026, to secure their relief. Missing this critical deadline means forfeiting your right to a refund or abatement.

Billions of dollars are currently at stake for millions of American taxpayers, ranging from individuals and small businesses to large corporations.

USA TODAY recently noted my observations about the massive implications of the Kwong v. United States decision. You can read the full article and my comments here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2026/06/04/july-10-deadline-covid-tax-refund-help/90408497007/

The decision means IRS penalties and interest assessed during the pandemic may have been improper. But the clock is ticking—the absolute deadline to file a protective claim is July 10.

In this clip from our recent interview, immigration attorney Elzara Eminova, Esq., sheds light on the crisis within the asylum system. With cases stretching up to 15 years, the path to legal status can be quite lengthy. We also discuss the sobering reality that 40% or fewer of individuals actually prevail in court. Check out this highlight to understand the intersection of constitutional rights, government spending, and the human impact of the immigration backlog.
