When a loved one suddenly needs nursing home care, families are often forced to make difficult financial decisions very quickly.

Many people assume they must spend down nearly all of their savings before Medicaid will help cover long-term care costs. In reality, there may be planning strategies available that can help protect assets while securing needed care.

We recently shared an article explaining how Medicaid compliant annuities may be used in certain New Jersey planning situations.

Planning for the long-term care you or someone close to you might need can be stressful because so much is unknown. What level of care will be needed? How much will it cost? Will you be eligible for Medicaid’s help if you own a home?

If you know about Medicaid’s strict asset limits, you may think that the rules will require you to sell your home to pay for your care. But a Medicaid Asset Protection Trust (MAPT) tailored to New York law can protect your home and still permit you to receive Medicaid’s long-term care assistance.

Learn how a New York Medicaid Asset Protection Trust (MAPT) can safeguard your home, preserve assets, and help you qualify for long-term care benefits.

When someone creates a last will and testament, they make a legally binding document in which they clearly state how and to whom their assets will be distributed after their death.

If a person dies without leaving a will, they are said to have died intestate, and New York’s laws of intestate succession will determine how the persons assets will be distributed.
