Eli Electric Vehicles, based in Los Angeles, will introduce its Zero electric micro-car in the US later this year. The tiny two-seater city car will be available starting at $11,990.

The Eli Zero measures only 88.6 x 54.3 x 64.4 inches (2,250 x 1,379 x 1,635 mm), boasting a tight turning circle of 23 feet (7 meters), and occupies only a fraction of a standard parking space

The Zero features a 6-kW rear-wheel-drive electric motor with two drive modes, reaching a maximum speed of 25 mph (40 km/h). While not meant for highways, it's ideal for urban commuting, gated communities, campuses, and tourism. You can choose between two battery options: an 8-kWh pack for up to 60 miles (~95 km) per charge or a 12-kWh pack for an additional 30 miles.

Completing the main features, the Eli Zero offers 5.65 cubic feet (160 liters) of trunk space, suitable for "two carry-ons, groceries, or a gym bag." Additionally, it includes a built-in audio alert to alert pedestrians of its approach. The Eli Zero will be available for general sale through local distributors and dealers across the US starting in Q3 this year, priced from $11,990.

Venture capital (VC) firms are interested in companies with high growth potential, so it's unlikely they would directly invest in home RO system installations. However, there are a few ways VC could be involved in the broader RO space:

New Technologies: VC firms might invest in companies developing next-generation RO systems. This could involve:

More efficient membranes: Reducing water waste during filtration is an area of ongoing research. New membrane technology could improve water output while maintaining contaminant removal.
Lower energy consumption: RO systems can be energy-intensive. VC could back companies developing more energy-efficient RO systems.
Smart RO systems: Integrating sensors and connectivity could allow for real-time monitoring of water quality and filter performance.
RO for New Markets: VC might invest in companies bringing RO to new applications or under-served markets. Here are some possibilities:

Industrial RO systems: Large-scale RO for industrial applications like food and beverage production, or wastewater treatment, could be an area of VC interest.
Decentralized RO systems: VC could fund companies developing portable or community-based RO systems for areas with limited access to clean water.
Disaster relief: Portable RO systems can be crucial for providing clean water after natural disasters. VC might invest in companies developing innovative and efficient disaster relief RO solutions.
Delivery and Service Models: VC could be interested in companies creating new business models around RO systems:

Subscription-based RO with filter replacements and maintenance included.
Direct-to-consumer sales with efficient installation services.
Data-driven water quality monitoring and filter replacement reminders.
Overall, VC interest in RO would likely focus on innovation and scalability. Companies with disruptive technologies or addressing new markets with RO solutions would be more attractive to VC firms than financing individual home RO installations.

Reverse osmosis (RO) systems have both advantages and disadvantages to consider depending on your water quality and needs. Here’s a breakdown of both: Pros: Effective Contaminant Removal: RO …

There are several exciting trends in clean water startups working to address global water scarcity and improve water quality:

Digital Water Management: Using sensors, AI, and data analytics to monitor water infrastructure, detect leaks, and optimize water use. This helps utilities manage resources more efficiently and identify problems before they cause disruptions.

Advanced Filtration: Developing innovative filtration technologies like nanofiltration and membrane technology to remove contaminants and purify water more effectively, even from unconventional sources.

Wastewater Treatment: Focusing on reusing wastewater for irrigation or other purposes, reducing the strain on freshwater supplies. Biological treatment methods and modular systems are gaining traction.

Decentralized Water Infrastructure: Creating smaller, localized water treatment systems for remote areas that lack access to traditional water infrastructure. This can provide clean water to underserved communities.

Sustainable Desalination: Desalination removes salt from seawater, providing clean water in coastal regions. New methods focus on reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.

Alternative Water Sources: Exploring ways to harvest water from the air or extract it from unconventional sources like brine.

These trends all show a focus on technological innovation to make water management more efficient, sustainable, and accessible for everyone.

Why You Should Reach for Clean Water Today

Our bodies are amazing machines, but even the most impressive technology needs maintenance to run smoothly. Clean water is the essential ingredient for optimal health, and for good reason! Here's why:

Hydration Hero: Our bodies are about 60% water [1], and every bodily function relies on it. From delivering nutrients to regulating temperature, water is constantly on the move. Drinking clean water ensures this vital process runs smoothly.

Flushing Toxins: Imagine your body as a city. Clean water acts like the sanitation system, flushing out toxins and waste products that can build up and lead to health problems.

Disease Defense: Contaminated water can harbor harmful bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Clean water, however, is free of these nasties, helping to prevent nasty waterborne illnesses.

Brainpower Booster: Even mild dehydration can zap your focus and energy levels. Studies have shown that staying hydrated can improve cognitive function and mood [2].

So ditch the sugary drinks and prioritize clean water! Whether it's from a trusted tap source or a filtered pitcher, keep a reusable water bottle with you and sip throughout the day. Your body will thank you!
