🌱 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐝 🌱

Region 12 (Carroll, Crawford, Harrison, Monona, Shelby, West Pottawattamie) boards met September 15th in Dunlap at the 4 County Fair for the annual issue surfacing meeting. Board members broke into groups to discuss and list issues they would like to see Farm Bureau address in the coming year. Board member, Mike Genereux, attended to represent West Pottawattamie.

All Farm Bureau members can participate in issue surfacing by logging on to the FB website: www.iowafarmbureau.com. As a grassroots organization, Farm Bureau needs to hear the concerns of members. These issues drive our policy as we work for the needs of farmers.

𝗩𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗻 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

On September 9-10 WPCFB Voting Delegate, Kelby Vorthmann, attended the 2026 Summer Policy Conference held in Des Moines.

Over 100 farmer delegates and representatives across Iowa meet to debate and approve state and national resolutions. The SPC is the culmination of our grassroots policy development process where voting delegates will determine policy direction for Iowa Farm Bureau for the upcoming year.

We’re officially back in the classroom at Underwood Elementary!
Last week, Haley kicked off another year of Ag in the Classroom with Kindergarten and 2nd grade students in Underwood.

We started with a couple of great books, “Right This Very Minute with Kindergarten and How Did That Get in My Lunchbox? with 2nd grade. Students learned that the food on their plates has a pretty incredible journey, starting with farmers and ranchers!

Students became agriculture detectives, connecting everyday items to where they come from. From the milk in their breakfast to the paper in their classroom, they discovered just how many parts of their everyday lives are connected to agriculture.

We loved seeing students make those connections and we can’t wait for another great year of learning where agriculture meets the classroom!

🍅🌽🌱 𝐀𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲! 🌱🌽🍅

Last week, Haley kicked off another exciting year of Ag in the Classroom with Kindergarten and 2nd grade students at Missouri Valley Elementary School!

Kindergarten students joined in reading Right This Very Minute: A Table-to-Farm Book About Food and Farming by Lisl H. Detlefsen, while 2nd graders explored How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?: The Story of Food by Chris Butterworth. Through these stories, students discovered that food doesn't simply appear on grocery store shelves. It begins on farms and travels through many hands before reaching our plates.

After story time, students became agriculture detectives as they created their own Farm Webs. Using strings and pictures, they connected everyday items to their agricultural origins, revealing just how many products in their lives are linked to farming and ranching.

From the milk they drink at breakfast to the paper they write on at school, agriculture is woven into nearly every part of our day. The Farm Web activity helped students see that agriculture isn't just about crops and livestock. It's also about the countless products, careers, and people that help meet our everyday needs.

By the end of the lesson, students were amazed to discover how many of the things they use, wear, eat, and enjoy can be traced back to agriculture. Each classroom received a Farm Web poster to display as a reminder of the important role agriculture plays in their daily lives.
