💙 Beyond Medicare Tuesday | Ready, Set, Covered

✅ TODAY’S ACTION ITEM: BUILD YOUR PRESCRIPTION LIST!

We’ve talked today about why prescriptions matter when comparing health insurance plans. Now it’s time to put that information into action!

Take 10 minutes today and create—or update—your prescription list.

For each medication, write down:

💊 Medication name
📏 Dosage
⏰ How often you take it
🔢 Quantity you normally receive
🏪 Your preferred pharmacy

Then save your list somewhere you can easily find it when you need it.

Why is this little list so helpful?

When you're comparing health insurance options, you can use it to check:

✔️ Whether your prescriptions are covered
✔️ What cost-sharing tier they're on
✔️ Your potential copay or coinsurance
✔️ Whether any coverage requirements apply
✔️ Whether your preferred pharmacy participates with the plan

💡 Remember: Formularies, costs, pharmacy networks and coverage requirements can change. Checking your medications when comparing coverage can help you avoid unexpected costs or surprises at the pharmacy.

🎯 READY, SET, COVERED CHALLENGE:

Set a timer for 10 minutes and make your list TODAY!

Already have one? Take 10 minutes to make sure it's still current. 🙌

💙 Beyond Medicare Tuesday | Myth vs. Fact
Everything but Medicare Edition

❌ MYTH:
“All health plans cover the same prescriptions.”

✅ FACT:
They don't!

Each health insurance plan has its own list of covered medications, often called a formulary. That means a prescription covered by one plan may be covered differently—or may not be covered at all—by another.

And simply seeing your medication on the list isn't the only thing to check!

Before choosing a plan, look at:

💊 Is my medication covered?
Check the plan's current formulary.

💰 What could I pay?
The same medication may be placed on different cost-sharing tiers depending on the plan.

🏪 Is my pharmacy in-network?
Your favorite pharmacy may not participate with every plan.

📋 Are there special requirements?
Some prescriptions may have prior authorization, quantity limits, step therapy or other coverage rules.

💡 WHY IT MATTERS:
Choosing a plan without checking your prescriptions could lead to higher costs or an unwelcome surprise when you get to the pharmacy.

Before enrolling, keep an updated list of your medications—including the name, dosage and how often you take each one—and use it when comparing your options.

💙 Beyond Medicare Tuesday | Coverage Spotlight

💊 PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE

The medications you take can be an important part of choosing the right health insurance plan.

Two plans may look similar at first glance—but their prescription coverage can be very different.

Depending on the plan, prescription coverage may help with:

💊 Covered Medications — Plans have a list of covered prescription drugs, often called a formulary.

💰 Prescription Costs — Medications may be placed into different cost-sharing tiers, which can affect your copay or coinsurance.

🏪 Pharmacy Choices — Plans may have pharmacy networks, so it's important to check whether your preferred pharmacy participates.

📋 Coverage Requirements — Some medications may have prior authorization, quantity limits, step therapy or other requirements.

🔎 DON'T JUST ASK, “IS MY MEDICATION COVERED?”

Also ask:

✔️ What tier is it on?
✔️ What could I pay for it?
✔️ Is my pharmacy in-network?
✔️ Are there special coverage requirements?
✔️ How does this plan's prescription coverage compare with my other options?

💡 HELPFUL TIP:
Keep an updated medication list with the name, dosage and how often you take each prescription. Having that information ready makes comparing plans much easier.

And remember—formularies, costs, pharmacy networks and coverage rules can change. A plan that worked well for your prescriptions before may not necessarily be the best fit later.

A little homework now can help prevent unwelcome surprises at the pharmacy! 💙

💙 Beyond Medicare Tuesday | Did You Know?

💊 WHY SHOULD I CHECK MY PRESCRIPTIONS BEFORE CHOOSING A HEALTH PLAN?

Finding a health plan that covers your doctors is important—but don't forget about your prescriptions!

Health plans can differ in which medications they cover, what you'll pay, and which pharmacies participate in the plan's network.

Before choosing coverage, check:

💊 Are my medications covered?
Not every plan covers the same prescriptions.

💰 What could I pay?
A medication may be placed on a different cost tier from one plan to another, which can affect your copay or coinsurance.

🏪 Is my pharmacy in-network?
Your preferred pharmacy may not participate with every plan.

📋 Are there coverage requirements?
Depending on the plan and medication, there may be quantity limits, prior authorization, step therapy or other requirements.

✅ YOUR PRESCRIPTION CHECKLIST

1️⃣ Make a list of your current prescriptions.
2️⃣ Include the medication name, dosage and how often you take it.
3️⃣ Check each plan's covered drug list or formulary.
4️⃣ Compare your potential costs.
5️⃣ Verify your preferred pharmacy participates with the plan.

💡 Helpful Tip: Even if your medications are covered today, plan formularies, costs and pharmacy networks can change. Review your prescriptions when comparing coverage for a new plan year.

A little homework now can help prevent some unwelcome surprises later!

☕ MEDICARE MONDAY | MYTH VS. FACT

❌ MYTH:
“If I miss my Initial Enrollment Period, I can just sign up for Medicare anytime.”

✅ FACT:
Not necessarily.

Medicare has specific enrollment periods. If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period and don't qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you may have to wait for another opportunity to enroll.

Depending on your situation, waiting could also mean:

📅 A gap in coverage
💰 Possible late-enrollment penalties
⏰ Having to wait for another enrollment period

💡 THE TAKEAWAY:
Knowing your Medicare enrollment dates matters. Don't assume you can simply enroll whenever you're ready.

Know the facts before you decide. 💙

💙 MEDICARE MONDAY Q&A | DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I TURN 65?

❓ QUESTION:
“Do I have to wait until I turn 65 to enroll in Medicare?”

✅ ANSWER:
For most people, no!

Your Medicare Initial Enrollment Period generally begins 3 months before the month you turn 65. That means you may be able to start the enrollment process before your actual 65th birthday. 📅

And that extra time can be valuable!

Starting early gives you time to:

✔️ Know when your enrollment window opens
✔️ Learn about your Medicare options
✔️ Compare coverage based on your needs
✔️ Ask questions before making a decision
✔️ Feel more confident when it's time to enroll

💡 CAT'S TIP:
Your 65th birthday may be the milestone, but your Medicare planning can start before then.

💙 MEDICARE MONDAY | YOUR INITIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD

Turning 65 soon? One of the first Medicare dates you’ll want to know is your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). 📅

For most people turning 65, your IEP is a 7-month window:

🔹 3 months before the month you turn 65
🔹 Your birthday month
🔹 3 months after your birthday month

For example, if your 65th birthday is June 15, your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs from March 1 through September 30.

Why does knowing your window matter?

✔️ It helps you plan ahead
✔️ It gives you time to understand and compare your Medicare options
✔️ It can help you avoid missing important enrollment deadlines and possible late-enrollment penalties

💡 CAT’S TIP: Don’t wait until your 65th birthday to start learning about Medicare. Knowing your dates ahead of time can make the transition much easier.

📌 Save this post so you’ll have it when you need it!

🖊️ NOTARY MINUTE WITH CAT

Have you ever looked at a document and wondered, “Does this need to be notarized?” 🤔

Notarization may be required for many different types of documents, including:

🏠 Real estate documents
💰 Certain financial documents
❤️ Health care documents
⚖️ Legal and court documents
💼 Business documents
✈️ Certain travel and consent documents

But here's the important part: not every document needs to be notarized.

✨ If you're unsure, check the document's instructions or ask the organization receiving it. An attorney can also provide guidance when legal advice is needed.

As a Notary Public, I can help complete the appropriate notarization once you know what your document requires—but I cannot prepare legal documents, provide legal advice, or determine which notarial act you need.

💛 Need a notary? I'm happy to help!
