Good news for Texas homeowners and drivers: state insurance data shows some carriers have been filing rate decreases since July — about 4.3% on average for homeowners, and some auto filings are down too.

The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is accepting applications, issuing new policies, and processing renewals again starting today, Friday, October 9.

⚠️ TWIA has paused new windstorm policies while Hurricane Isaias is in the Gulf.

Already have TWIA? Renewals without a coverage increase can still be issued. Need new wind coverage through TWIA? It can start at 12:01 a.m. the day after the moratorium lifts.

⚠️ Heads up, Coastal Bend: TWIA has paused new windstorm policies.

Because Hurricane Isaias is in the Gulf, the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) has put a policy moratorium in place. Until it's lifted, TWIA can't accept new applications, issue new policies, or increase coverage on existing policies.

What this means for you:
• If you already have a TWIA policy, renewals without a coverage increase can still be issued.
• If you're buying a home or need new wind coverage through TWIA, that will have to wait until TWIA lifts the moratorium. New policies can start at 12:01 a.m. the day after it's lifted.
