🏠 What Homeowners Insurance DOES and DOESN’T Cover
A lot of homeowners believe insurance covers anything that breaks in the house. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works.
✅ Homeowners insurance is designed to protect against sudden and accidental damage caused by covered events like:
• Fire
• Windstorms
• Hail
• Theft
• Sudden water damage from plumbing or internal systems
❌ What it does NOT cover:
• Wear and tear
• Old age deterioration
• Mechanical breakdowns
• Maintenance issues
• Long-term leaks or neglect
📌 Example: Your Roof
If a tree branch crashes through your roof during a storm — insurance will likely cover the repairs.
But if your 30-year-old shingles are leaking because they’ve simply worn out over time, that’s considered maintenance, not an insurance claim.
Insurance companies look closely at:
✔️ Age of the roof
✔️ Cause of damage
✔️ Whether the damage was sudden or gradual
Homeowners insurance is protection against unexpected losses — not a maintenance contract.
Regular inspections and upkeep can save you thousands later.
If you’re unsure what your current policy actually covers, now is a good time to review it. 🏡
