October is Fire Prevention Month-Here are some reminders to protect your home & family
🔥🏠 Before You Turn Up the Heat…
The nights are getting cooler, and it won’t be long before furnaces, fireplaces, and wood stoves are getting fired up for the season!
Before you turn up the thermostat or light that first fire, take a few minutes to make sure your home is ready:
🔧 Have your heating system checked and make sure it’s operating properly.
🧹 Have chimneys and fireplaces inspected and cleaned as needed. Creosote and other buildup can create a serious fire hazard.
📦 Keep the area around furnaces, fireplaces, and other heating equipment clear of boxes, clothing, decorations, and anything else that can burn.
🏠 Check exterior vents and make sure they’re clear and unobstructed. Remember to keep an eye on them once the snow starts flying, too!
🚨 Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Make sure they’re working and located where they should be throughout your home.
A little preparation now can help keep you and your family safe all heating season. 🔥
