Today, we're shouting out Shining Star AAU, an Ohio nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young athletes develop leadership skills, character, discipline, and teamwork through basketball.

For more than two decades, Shining Star has been focused on building tomorrow's leaders both on and off the court.

Laurence Jones has served as Board Chair for the past year, taking the opportunity to help shape futures, create opportunities, and make a lasting impact on young people throughout our region.

Beep beep! 🛴

Scooters have become a major part of campus life and city transportation, but they also come with important safety considerations.

In fact, shared e-scooter riders took 58 million trips in U.S. and Canadian cities in 2025 alone, showing just how common this form of transportation has become, according to the National Association of City Transportation Officials.

Our final UC student video in our risk-management series takes a look at scooter safety on campus and reminds us that everyday risk management can be as simple as staying alert, following traffic rules, and making smart choices on the go.

Road trip planning is basically risk management with snacks, playlists, and questionable amounts of caffeine. 🚗🥤

In this student-created video about planning a drive from Ohio to Tennessee, one of the first decisions isn’t the route — it’s figuring out exactly how much Red Bull and Diet Coke it takes to survive the drive.

Leadership gaps don’t pause risk, and great organizations plan for this.

Anita, Senior Risk Consultant with our RiskVersity team, recently completed a six-month interim engagement, stepping in as risk manager for a college in Texas during a sabbatical. During that time, she provided hands-on leadership, maintained continuity across key risk functions, and ensured nothing fell through the cracks.

This is a core part of what we do at RiskVersity. Whether it’s interim roles, program stabilization, or strengthening risk strategy, we help teams stay steady through transition.

According to Deloitte, today’s higher education institutions are facing five major categories of enterprise risk simultaneously: business model, reputation, operating model, enrollment supply, and compliance risks.

That’s a major shift from the traditional view of risk management as primarily insurance, safety, or compliance. Higher education leaders are being asked to manage more risk than ever before, from cyber threats and enrollment pressures to reputational crises and public scrutiny.

Modern risk management now touches nearly every part of an organization including communications, leadership, technology, workforce planning, and public trust.
