📬 Keep an eye on your mailbox this September! If you have a Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription drug plan, you should be receiving your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter by September 30th. This letter explains what's changing with your plan starting January 1st — things like your premium, deductible, drug coverage, which doctors or pharmacies are in network, and how benefit coverage is changing.

It's easy to set this letter aside, but taking a few minutes to read through it can save you from surprises come the new year. And if something in your ANOC catches your attention, remember that Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15th through December 7th, giving you time to compare plans and make a change if you need to.

If you have questions about what your ANOC means for you, we're always happy to help walk through it with us and discuss plan options starting October 1. Send us a message or give us a call!

💊 Are You Eating Enough Nutrients on Your GLP-1?

GLP-1 medications help you feel full and eat less, but eating less has a downside. Recent studies show that nutritional deficiencies are "a common consequence" of GLP-1 therapy. Vitamin D is the most common gap, with iron, B vitamins, and anemia also showing up.

🥗 What to do? Make every bite count

With a smaller appetite, quality matters more than quantity. Build meals around:

🍗 Protein — lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, low-fat dairy

🌾 Fiber — whole grains, veggies, fruits, nuts

🥑 Healthy fats — avocado, olive oil, salmon, seeds

💧 Hydration — aim for 8–10 glasses of water a day

💡 Don't skip meals entirely, even when you're not hungry. Consider protein shakes or bars when whole meals feel like too much.

GLP-1s can be a powerful tool for weight loss and metabolic health. Getting the nutrition piece right helps you feel strong and energized—not just lighter on the scale.

Here's something research keeps confirming: older adults often report higher happiness and emotional well-being than people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. And it's not because life gets easier.

Studies suggest older adults get better at managing emotions, recovering from stress faster, and focusing on what actually matters. They also tend to invest more deeply in fewer relationships, rather than spreading themselves thin across many.

The good news? These aren't traits you're born with. They're habits you can start building today, no matter your age.

Try this: spend more time this week with the two or three people who matter most to you. Notice one good thing each day, even a hard one. And let go of comparing your life to anyone else's.

What's one small habit that's made a real difference in your happiness? Share it below, we'd love to hear it. And if you're looking for ways to protect your health and peace of mind at every stage of life, we're here to help.

Your will doesn't control your life insurance payout. Your beneficiary form does.

A lot of people set their beneficiaries once and never look again. Here's what can go wrong when that form falls out of date.

➡️ It overrides your will. The person named on your policy usually gets the money, even if your will says otherwise.

➡️ Divorce and remarriage. If your ex is still listed, they could receive the payout instead of your current spouse.

➡️ Old assumptions about who needs it most. Maybe you named your kids years ago when your spouse had their own income. If your spouse now depends on that payout, an outdated beneficiary form could leave him/her short.

➡️ A beneficiary who has passed away. Without a backup named, the money can end up in probate, which means months of delay for the family.

➡️ An estranged family member. If a sibling or parent is still listed from years ago, they're still in line for the payout, no matter how the relationship has changed.

A good rule of thumb: review your beneficiaries once a year, and again after any big life event like marriage, divorce, a birth, a death. It only takes a few minutes.

Your beneficiary form is a set of instructions, and the insurance company follows it exactly. Not sure who's listed on your policy? Reach out. We're happy to help you review and update it.

Quick question: do you know if your insurance plan includes vision coverage? 👀 Many people don't realize vision insurance is often one of the most affordable add-ons available — and it's easy to overlook when you're focused on the bigger stuff like health or life insurance.

Vision coverage typically helps with the cost of eye exams, glasses, and contacts, making it easier to keep up with routine eye care. And routine eye care matters more than most people think — regular exams aren't just about your glasses or contacts prescription. They're a simple way to stay on top of your overall eye health too.

If it's been a while since you checked whether vision insurance is part of your coverage (or if you have it at all!), now's a great time to take a look.

Do you currently have vision insurance? We're happy to help you figure out what's available to you.

Health insurance can feel confusing. Between premiums, deductibles, copays, provider networks, and prescription tiers, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

⭐The good news? Most health insurance plans follow the same basic structure. Once you understand a few key terms, it becomes much easier to use your coverage and avoid unexpected medical bills.

Here are a few important concepts every policyholder should know:

➡️Premium – Your monthly payment to keep your insurance active. Think of it like a subscription.

➡️Deductible – The amount you pay for healthcare before your insurance begins sharing the cost.

➡️Copays & Coinsurance – Your portion of the cost when you receive care (either a flat fee or a percentage).

➡️Out-of-Pocket Maximum – The most you will pay for covered services in a year before insurance covers 100%.

➡️Provider Networks – Doctors and hospitals your insurance has negotiated lower rates with. Staying in-network usually saves you money.

➡️Preventive Care – Many plans cover services like annual physicals, screenings, and vaccines at no cost.

➡️Prescription Drug Coverage – Medications are often grouped into tiers that determine how much you pay.

➡️Prior Authorization – Some services require approval from your insurance company before treatment.

Understanding how these pieces fit together can help you make smarter healthcare decisions and feel more confident using your benefits.

❌ Picking a health insurance plan based on the monthly premium alone?

That's one of the most common — and costly — mistakes people make.

A lower premium might look great on paper, but it can come with higher deductibles, higher out-of-pocket costs, and less coverage when you actually need it. And that's just mistake #1.

Here are a few others we see all the time:

🔹 Not checking if your doctors are in-network
🔹 Skipping the prescription drug coverage review
🔹 Choosing the wrong deductible for your health needs
🔹 Ignoring the out-of-pocket maximum
🔹 Not using your insurance advocate (that's us!)

Health insurance is complex — but you don't have to figure it out alone. We're here to help. Send us a message anytime.
