💰Should you buy down your interest rate? It depends — and this is exactly why you need a lender who looks at the whole picture, not just the rate.

Paying points means you’re paying more money upfront to get a lower rate. Sometimes that makes perfect sense, especially if you plan to stay in the home long enough to hit the break-even point. Other times? You’re spending thousands upfront for savings you may never actually realize.

And PLEASE — always ask if the rate you’re being quoted includes points. A lower rate isn’t necessarily a better deal if you’re paying a ton of money to get it.

If your lender is closing without making sure you understand what you’re doing with your money, what you’re paying in points, and how long it will take you to recoup that cost — you need a new lender. 👏

The goal isn’t just to get you to the closing table. It’s to make sure you understand where your money is going and that the loan actually makes sense for your long-term plans.
