Today our insurance office experienced flooding caused by an unprecedented amount of rain for Michigan in December. Due to State of Michigan regulations designed to protect surrounding waterways, sediment traps were required to remain in newly updated drain systems, which resulted in surface water entering our building. While there was damage, the situation was quickly brought under control thanks to an incredible group of people who stepped up without hesitation.
We are extremely grateful to Heath Warmbein for alerting us immediately to the issue, Redbud Hardware for quickly providing sandbags and fans to help prevent further damage, and Ronnie Hein, Shane Carpenter, and Jacob Glossinger for showing up right away to help stop additional water from entering the building. Your willingness to help made a huge difference. To the City of Buchanan: Thank you. You did not hesitate to send every available city worker to help on a Sunday afternoon. You showed up and you made a difference and that does not go unnoticed. We can not begin to express our gratitude to everyone who reached out to show your support and to extend a helping hand. We are blessed to be part of such an amazing community.
Mother Nature had her own plans today, and we appreciate the continued efforts of our city and community.
As an insurance office, we also want to share an important reminder: surface water is not covered under a standard homeowners or commercial property policy. Events like this are considered surface water flooding and are only covered by a flood insurance policy. If this is something you feel could happen to your home or business, please reach out to our office for a no-obligation flood quote. Being informed and prepared makes all the difference.
Once again, thank you to everyone who helped—we are truly thankful to be part of such a supportive community. 💙
