In honor of HR Appreciation Day coming up on September 26, we’re looking back at a key part of HR history—payroll! 💼💰

This photo from the archives of the Payroll Department at Mutual of Omaha takes us back to a time before direct deposit. By 1930, a Payroll/Cashier Department was officially formed to ensure employees were paid accurately—a commitment that continues today. Fun fact- Until 1937, associates were actually paid in cash, and that same year, Social Security deductions were introduced.
