📊Valley Medicare Solutions Medicare Minute:
Medigap vs Medicare

Everyone on Medicare pays the same Part B premium: $202.90 per month in 2026. The question is “What do I add to cover the gaps in Medicare Part A and Part B”❓

📌Option #1 : add Part D plan for prescriptions (about $35/month) and a Medigap policy to cover the gaps.

Medigap Plan G, the most popular option, runs $150–$250 per month depending on your age and state. Total: around $390–$490 per month.

📌Option #2 : Medicare Advantage, you could pay $0–per month on top of Part B, and prescriptions are usually included. Total: around $203–$253 per month.

That's a big monthly premium difference. So why would anyone choose the more expensive option?

Answer: Every individual has a different budget and healthcare needs. Both options provide comprehensive care- but you may prefer one over the other! And it’s important to learn about all the coverage options available before enrolling.

📊Medicare Minute: Medicare Part A vs. Part B

Part A deductible is per benefit period, ending 60 days after discharge.

Part A skilled nursing coverage Days 1-20 are covered in full, and days 21-100 carry a $217/day coinsurance in 2026.

Medigap and Medicare Advantage both fill the 20% cost-sharing gap Part B leaves open. Medigap pays secondary to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare with a private plan that has its own network and prior authorization rules.

Understanding Medicare costs can help beneficiaries avoid overpaying premiums and Out-of-Pocket charges.
