Binghamton Neighbors: Are You Maximizing Your Dual Healthcare Coverage?

Navigating the world of healthcare can feel like solving a giant puzzle, especially when you are balancing both Medicare and Medicaid. If you have both, you might qualify for a Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP)—a type of Medicare Advantage plan designed specifically to coordinate your benefits.

Here is a quick breakdown of how these plans work and why they are worth looking into:

Why Consider a Dual Plan?
More Coverage, Less Cost: Most D-SNPs have $0 premiums, and they often cover the costs that original Medicare doesn't.

Extra Benefits: Many plans include "extras" like credits for over-the-counter health items, vision exams, dental care, and even transportation to doctor appointments.

Care Coordination: These plans are built to help your providers talk to each other, ensuring your care is seamless.

How to Qualify
To enroll in a D-SNP, you generally need to be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B and be eligible for some level of assistance from your state's Medicaid program.

MEDICARE SAVINGS PROGRAM

💡 Did You Know You Could Save Over $2,400 a Year on Medicare?

Many seniors are paying for Medicare costs that could actually be covered by the state. If you are on a fixed income, a Medicare Savings Program (MSP) can be a total game-changer for your monthly budget.

What is a Medicare Savings Program?

An MSP is a state-run program that helps pay your Medicare premiums. In many cases, it also covers your deductibles and co-pays!

The Big Benefits for 2026:

Keep Your Social Security: Most MSPs pay your Part B premium ($202.90/month in 2026). That’s money that stays in your check every single month!

Automatic "Extra Help": If you qualify for an MSP, you automatically get Extra Help with your prescription drug costs (Part D). This means lower co-pays at the pharmacy.

No Asset Test in NY: Great news for New Yorkers—New York does not look at your assets (like your home or savings) to see if you qualify. They only look at your monthly income!

Could You Qualify? (2026 NY Income Limits)

You might be eligible if your monthly gross income is below these levels:

Individual: Up to $1816 per month

Couple: Up to $2455 per month

Don’t leave money on the table! Medicare rules change every year, and eligibility expanded recently, so even if you didn't qualify in the past, you might now.

📞 Questions? I’m here to help. As your local Medicare broker, I can help you find out if you qualify and assist with the application process—at no cost to you.

🎂 TURNING 65 IN 2026?

Don’t Let Medicare Overwhelm You!
If you’re celebrating your 65th birthday this year, you have a 7-month window to get your Medicare sorted. But between Part A, Part B, and all those flyers in your mailbox, it’s easy to feel lost.
Here is your simple 3-step checklist to get covered:
1. Enroll in Original Medicare: Most neighbors head to the Social Security office at 60 Hawley St. here in Binghamton to sign up for Parts A & B. 🏛️
2. Check Your Doctors: Make sure your preferred providers at UHS or Lourdes are in the network of the plan you choose. 🩺
3. Mind the "2026 Gap": This year, there is a brand new $2,100 cap on prescription drug costs. Make sure your plan is updated to protect your wallet! 💊
📍 Need a Hand? I’m Right Next Door!
Why call a 1-800 number when you can talk to a neighbor? My office is located in the Upper Galleria of the Holiday Inn, just steps away from the Social Security building.
Make an appointment after you finish your paperwork, or let's chat over coffee! I’m a licensed local broker, and my goal is to make sure you get the Southern Tier coverage you deserve.

Choosing between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplemental plans can be a pivotal decision for your healthcare and financial well-being. In Binghamton, NY, many are faced with this choice, and understanding their differences is essential. Medicare Advantage combines Medicare Part A, Part B, and often Part D into one plan, offering a convenient all-in-one package. On the other hand, Medicare Supplemental (Medigap) covers out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare, providing an additional layer of financial security. Make an informed choice to suit your lifestyle and health needs.

While you may not be eligible to sign up for Medicare just yet, you can start preparing now to make the process easier when the time comes. Here’s a helpful to-do list to begin your journey.

12 months before your 65th birthday:
• See if you qualify for Medicare coverage by contacting Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board
