ties, and our incredibly kind residents. Plus, the outdoor concert series at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater is hard to beat! A lot of people ask how I decided to get started as an insurance agent. Typically speaking, it’s not the type of job a child dreams of becoming. However, it’s such an important job! When I was in my early 20's my partner of 10 years was killed while driving his motorcycle. Unfortunately, he didn’t have life insurance, and I not only lost him, but everything we had built together for our future. When you’re going through something tragic like that, you oftentimes become overcome with grief and it can swallow you whole if you don’t have proper supports in place. I don't want our town to go through what I did by not being prepared. Insurance agents hold such a valuable role within the community. When tragedy strikes, we can guide them through the necessary steps and processes to help get back on track. We provide insurance that when the worst things happen, we are there to help recover from the unexpected. My now husband and I were in West Virginia when I got my start in the insurance field several years ago, just waiting for an opportunity to move back to Central Oregon. Fortunately, the opportunity for me to open my own State Farm agency in Deschutes County presented itself to me in my very own home town and we didn’t hesitate one moment! And, to put the icing on the cake, my big sister, Jenny Oliver decided to join me in the business, we then adopted another “sister” Julie who has years of insurance experience she brought to our team and been with me since day one. Tonya joined our team with so much knowledge and leadership, she has over a decade of home lending experience and marketing and has helped us grow so much. Kat came to our agency and is bilingual and fluent in Spanish. She has the ability to make you feel like you've called a friend and is such a joy. And lastly, Gareth keeps all us ladies organized, truly don't know what we would do without him. He makes sure all our customers don't miss a beat and is the first to reach out to them with customer service needs. To say we are blessed would be an understatement. What I absolutely love about State Farm is that their slogan truly does reflect their heart (“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”). They care so deeply about giving back to communities in ways that are near and dear to their insurance agents’ hearts. I am passionate about ending child and women trafficking and am partnering with companies in the area to bring awareness and do our part to stop it. Because of State Farm, I can give back to our community and link arms with nonprofits that will go toward ending this tragic cycle of trafficking or our local foster children.
