Friday Morning Thoughts,
A Lender’s Prospective
One thing about this business: no ONE person gets a family to the closing table. 🏡🤍
And sometimes I think the people doing the heaviest lifting are the ones who receive the least recognition. That’s called HUMILITY
Behind every “SOLD!” post and every smiling picture at the closing table, there is an entire group of people whose names may never make the caption.
There’s a lender answering the late night texts, restructuring the loan for the third time, taking on a loan no one else could get done, calculating every possible scenario, fighting for an approval, chasing conditions, solving problems nobody else even knew existed, and carrying the weight of getting that family to the finish line, while trying to meet the deadlines set forth.
There’s a processor gathering documents, clearing conditions, tracking down missing pieces and keeping a hundred moving parts moving in the same direction.
There’s an underwriter analyzing the entire story and making sure the loan meets the guidelines. That the clients have the “ability to repay”, and are kept up at night on loans they stretched because the loan officer had a damn good story and docs to back it up, because a 1st payment default means their underwriting will be scrutinized.
There are assistants, insurance agents, appraisers, title companies, closers, funders, inspectors, compliance teams and countless others touching that file along the way.
And yes, there are Realtors advocating for their clients, negotiating, coordinating and doing the work they were entrusted to do.
It takes ALL of us.
A few things I’ve learned:
🏡 People who genuinely carry the weight rarely have to tell everyone how heavy it was.
🏡 You can celebrate a win without claiming work that wasn’t yours.
🏡 Being part of the process and being responsible for every part of the process are two very different things.
🏡 And my personal favorite: If you have to repeatedly explain how instrumental you were, sometimes the explanation is doing MORE work than you did. 😂
At the end of the day, this business shouldn’t be about who can tell the best story about what they did, if you are doing the work for the RIGHT reasons. If you are merely acting as a vessel of GOD and using the talents HE gave you, THEY are HIS clients, getting them into a home is HIS GLORY. 🙌
A family got HOME. 🏡
That should ALWAYS be the story.
So give credit freely.
Take feedback honestly.
Thank the people behind the scenes.
And never forget the village it took to get those keys into your client’s hands. 🔑
Because the people who were actually in the trenches know who did what.
And God certainly does.
No one person closes a loan alone. CELEBRATE the client. RESPECT the process. APPRECIATE the people. Give GLORY to God. And one of my wisest friends once told me, “let your work speak for itself.” 🤍🏡
