Flag Day is a meaningful reminder of the history and story behind the Stars and Stripes, and our team at Kilgore Insurance is proud to celebrate it each year.
Here are a few fun facts about the United States flag that we think you'll enjoy:
🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old student, Robert G. Heft, in 1958. It was selected by President Eisenhower out of more than 3,000 submissions.
🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag, most updated simply to add stars as new states joined the Union. Each change marks another chapter in our nation’s growth.
🔹 Red, white, and blue weren’t chosen at random. According to Charles Thomson of the Continental Congress, red represents hardiness and valor, white stands for purity and innocence, and blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
🔹 Six American flags have been placed on the moon by Apollo missions, beginning with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
🔹 Today’s flag design is the longest-running in U.S. history, unchanged since Hawaii became a state in 1959.
We hope your Flag Day is filled with pride, reflection, and appreciation for the history this symbol carries.
