26 years of marriage. More than 30 years of working in an industry centered around planning for the future. And lately, I’ve been thinking about how quickly the future becomes the life you’re living. ❤️
Sean and I met in 1995 while working at Colonial Mutual Funds.
We were young, building careers, building a relationship and dreaming about what life might look like someday.
Then came a wedding on September 23, 2000.
Careers grew. A Home. A family followed. Our Two daughters. Dogs. Milestones. Challenges. Celebrations. Plenty of changes we could never have anticipated.
And somehow, all those “somedays” became 26 years of marriage.
Last week, as we sat across from each other celebrating our anniversary, I found myself thinking about something that feels particularly relevant to the work we do today.
For more than three decades, we’ve both worked with people preparing for their futures — weddings, education, retirement, transitions, legacy planning, new chapters and all the possibilities that come with them.
And there is certainly value in planning for tomorrow.
But life has taught me something equally important:
Don’t become so focused on preparing for someday that you forget to live today.
Because ultimately, the goal isn’t simply to reach retirement with a certain number.
-It’s having the health and well-being to enjoy it.
-People you love to share it with.
-Purpose that gets you up in the morning.
-Experiences you’re excited about.
-And the freedom to spend more of your time on what matters most to you.
Looking at these pictures of us then and now is a wonderful reminder:
Plan for the future. But build a life you don’t have to wait until retirement to enjoy.
Happy 26 years, Sean. Cheers to the life we’ve built — and there’s still so much ahead. ❤️
