Checking your OWN credit never hurts your score. That's a soft inquiry — it's you looking at your own information. A HARD inquiry is when a lender checks you for new credit. So you want a house. Here's what the lender is actually looking at, it's not just "your score." 👀

Here's what I bet you didn't know: mortgage lenders pull all THREE bureaus and use your MIDDLE score. Not your highest. Not your lowest. Not an average. Scores of 640, 670, and 710? The lender works with 670. Buying with a partner? They generally use the LOWER of your two middle scores.

You can't just polish your best bureau and ignore the other two.

Do this today:
✔️ Pull all three reports and compare side by side, accounts can report differently at each bureau
✔️ Fix the LOWEST bureau first, it's often dragging your middle score down
✔️ Don't open new credit right before applying, new accounts make underwriters nervous
✔️ Ask your lender early what score range their program needs, don't guess

If you gave this year — to your church, to a charity, to a cause you believe in — keep the paper, not just the feeling. 👀

I bet you didn't know this: for charitable gifts, it's the written record (receipt, bank record, acknowledgment letter) that backs up the gift on a return — not your memory of it. And timing matters too: a gift generally counts for the year you actually GIVE it, so a December gift and a January gift land in different tax years.

Do this today:

✔️ Gather every donation receipt you have for 2026 into one place — email receipts count, so search your inbox too
✔️ If you gave a larger single gift, make sure you have a written acknowledgment from the organization, not just a cancelled check
✔️ If you're planning a year-end gift, make it before December 31 if you want it to count for 2026

General education only — whether and how charitable giving affects your return depends on your situation. But generosity with records? That's stewardship, all the way.
