More than 230,000 visitors packed Steuben County during Memorial Day weekend last year, generating nearly $36 million in economic activity as the county's lakes, campgrounds and communities kicked off summer.

From Lake James and Hamilton Lake to Pokagon State Park and downtown Angola, tourism officials say Memorial Day remains one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Angola Eyes DORA For Historic Downtown Square

Angola could soon join other communities allowing people to carry drinks between stops downtown—a change supporters say will fit naturally into the city’s historic, walkable public square.
The proposal is now in front of the Common Council, and if it moves forward, it would set rules for when and how that kind of activity could happen.
