dfcu Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the c

ompany. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions. dfcu Limited was incorporated under the Laws of Uganda on the 14th of May 1964, as a Private Limited Liability Company. In 1999, dfcu acquired Uganda Leasing Company which became dfcu Leasing, to provide direct asset based finance. Leasing is an alternative means of financing plant, equipment, machinery, commercial vehicles and business cars. In May 2000, dfcu acquired Gold Trust Bank which became dfcu Bank, thus extending the services of the Bank to encompass general banking services in addition to the already existing equity finance, long term development finance, leasing, and working capital finance. dfcu Limited is a Public Limited Liability Company converted on 18th March 2004, and was listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange on the 14th of October 2004.

Taking the 10X Program to the ground: Empowering young women entrepreneurs across Elgon
and Bukedi.

Despite being onboarded into the 10X Program: Digitally Empowered Women Entrepreneurs (DEW), there remains a knowledge gap around how to fully leverage the program.

Last week, the dfcu Foundation team conducted field visits across 8 districts in the Elgon and Bukedi regions that is, Mbale, Sironko, Bulambuli, Budaka, Paliisa, Kibuku, Tororo and Busia, to deepen engagement and expand awareness of the 10X Program. During these engagements, we actively promoted the program among young women entrepreneurs while highlighting dfcu Foundation’s role and commitment to advancing digital inclusion for women and MSMEs.

We engaged directly with up to 800 women, helping them better understand the opportunities available through the program and providing practical guidance on how to access support such as digital skills training, tools for running businesses online, and connections to ecosystem partners. The visits also served to build anticipation and readiness for the upcoming capacity-strengthening workshops, which will focus on digital platforms, digital credit, and digital marketing.

Stay connected with us to learn more about how dfcu Foundation is supporting young women through the 10X Program: DEW, and to discover the inspiring stories of women whose businesses are being transformed through digital inclusion.

The dfcu–Serena Golf Club Day went beyond great swings and healthy competition, it marked the official launch of our Plastic Free Golf Initiative, a partnership with Serena Hotels aimed at eliminating single-use plastics from the golfing experience.

The launch highlighted what true responsibility looks like, with powerful reflections from our leadership on making sustainability practical, visible, and part of everyday action: “Sustainability is not a slogan. It is a way of life. It becomes real when it becomes part of daily behavior.” Mr. Jimmy D. Mugerwa, Board Chairman, dfcu Bank.

A big thank you to all participants for honoring our invitation and making the day a true celebration of skill, sportsmanship, and community. Congratulations to all our champions.

Together, we are driving change.
