BoSS Governor, British Ambassador Discuss Plan to Fast-Track Digital Payment Economy

Juba, August 25, 2026- -British Ambassador to South Sudan, David Ashley, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), where he met Governor Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow to discuss monetary policy, digital payments, and strengthening cooperation in the banking sector.

Ambassador Ashley congratulated Dr. Othow on his reappointment and expressed support for continued cooperation.
Dr. Othow briefed the ambassador on his priorities, including strengthening monetary policy, currency management, and advancing the National Payment System.

He further reaffirmed that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank are working closely to implement the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), while engaging telecommunication companies and mobile money operators to expand digital payment services.

“I believe with the plan we have now, it will help us to realize our digital payment systems and move faster toward a digital economy,” Governor Othow said.

The two officials also discussed the implementation of the recommendations of the Ministerial High-Level Committee to strengthen the banking sector and restore public confidence in South Sudan’s financial system.

The meeting was attended by Charles Abugo Joseph, Director General of Research and Economic Analysis at BoSS, and Nicolas Salway, Economic Advisor at the British Embassy.

جوبا، 25 أغسطس 2026 -

أجرى السفير البريطاني لدى جنوب السودان، ديفيد آشلي، اليوم الثلاثاء زيارة رسمية إلى بنك جنوب السودان، حيث إلتقى بمحافظ بنك جنوب السودان المركزي، الدكتور أديس أبابا أوطو، و بحث الطرفان مناقشة السياسة النقدية، والمدفوعات الرقمية، وتعزيز التعاون في القطاع المصرفي.

وقد هنأ السفير آشلي الدكتور أوطو بمناسبة إعادة تعيينه، معرباً عن دعمه لإستمرار التعاون بين الجانبين.
و إستعرض أوطو أولوياته التي تشمل تعزيز السياسة النقدية، وإدارة العملة، وتطوير نظام المدفوعات الوطني. كما أكد مجدداً أن وزارة المالية والبنك المركزي يعملان بشكل وثيق لتطبيق "نظام معلومات الإدارة المالية المتكاملة" (IFMIS)، بالتزامن مع إشراك شركات الإتصالات ومشغلي خدمات الأموال عبر الهاتف المحمول لتوسيع نطاق خدمات الدفع الرقمي.

وقال الدكتور أوطو: "أعتقد أن الخطة التي نمتلكها حالياً ستساعدنا على إنجاز أنظمة الدفع الرقمي والمضي قدماً وبسرعة أكبر نحو إقتصاد رقمي".
كما ناقشا ، تنفيذ توصيات اللجنة الوزارية رفيعة المستوى الرامية إلى تعزيز القطاع المصرفي و إستعادة ثقة الجمهور في النظام المالي بجنوب السودان.

BoSS Weekly Update

Juba, August 21, 2026- - Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) Weekly Update highlights key top management engagements, monetary policy developments, and the Bank’s mandate.
During the week, BoSS held a workshop on the NPS Bill and strengthened coordination with the South Sudan Revenue Authority and commercial banks on the implementation of directives concerning standing orders.

“We must work together to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective revenue management,” said Governor Dr. Addis Ababa Othow.
