San Jose Multi-Purpose Cooperative Page SINCE 1964

An open type Cooperative which offers financial and social services to its members and to the community where it operates. Cornelius de Witt.

Organized in 1964 with the help of Mill Hill Missionaries headed by the first Bishop of Antique – Msgr. Father Antony Oomen, parish priest of San Jose gathered twenty eight (28) people for the purpose of forming a Cooperative on February 23, 1964. Fifteen (15) of them were members of the Knights of the Columbus, with the assistance of two (2) representatives from Cooperative Administration Office

(CAO). On September 22, of the same year, San Jose Credit Union was born and was formally registered. Its temporary home was at the basement of the San Jose Parish Convento. On September 2007, the Cooperative was able to have its permanent home at Trade Town, Dalipe, San Jose de Buenvaista. This was made possible through the usufruct agreement between SJMPC and the Local Government Unit of San Jose headed by then Mayor Fernando Corvera and also with the help of the CDFs of Congressman Exequiel B. Javier and Senator Juan Flavier. In 2016, from a small number of 151 members in 1964, the Cooperative’s membership increased to 10,384.
