On August 14, the EPMI San Vicente Unit conducted a one-day Farmers Training on โ€œInsect Pest and Diseases Management in Rice Productionโ€ at Malagnang Hall, New Agutaya, San Vicente, Palawan.

The session began with an opening prayer, followed by warm opening remarks from our Area Manager, Mr. Andrew Aguila, setting the tone for a meaningful day of learning and sharing, with the support of our Branch Manager, Mr. Perry Jay Magon.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Medjie Zabato and Mr. Jayson Adier, Agricultural Extension Workers from the LGUโ€“Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), who shared practical insights on identifying and managing common insect pests and diseases affecting rice production.

24 farmer-clients actively participated in the training and were recognized with Certificates of Attendance. As a practical gesture of support, they also received bolos for use on their farmsโ€”simple but useful tools to help turn knowledge into action.

Beyond the discussions, our farmers also took part in interactive group activities, including identifying the different stages of rice growth and matching them with the common insect pests that may occur at each stage. The hands-on activities encouraged participation, teamwork, and practical learning.

Because farming is not just about plantingโ€”itโ€™s about learning, adapting, and growing together. Hereโ€™s to stronger farmers, healthier crops, and more productive communities!

On August 11, the EPMI Espaรฑola Unit conducted a one-day Farmers Training on โ€œInsect Pests and Diseases Managementโ€ at Advientoโ€™s Integrated Farm in Espaรฑola, Palawan.

The training brought together 26 rice farmers and clients for a meaningful day of learning, sharing, and strengthening practical knowledge to help protect their crops and improve farm productivity. The session began with an opening prayer, followed by warm opening remarks from our Area Manager, Mr. Johnel Cinco, with the support of our Branch Manager, Mr. Lynard Jorillo.

Participants learned how to identify common insect pests at different stages of rice growth and explored practical approaches to managing pests and diseases through physical, biological, and chemical control methods. As a simple token of appreciation and support, the participating farmers also received Certificates of Attendance and sharp bolos to assist them in their day-to-day farm activities.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Rolet Suanque, Officer-in-Charge of the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), who shared valuable insights and practical guidance to help farmers make informed decisions in managing their crops.

At EPMI, we believe that empowering farmers starts with knowledge. When farmers have the right skills, tools, and information, they become more confident in making decisions and building healthier, more resilient, and productive farms. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ

ECLOF Philippines, represented by Executive Director Liza Eco, was recently recognized as one of the Outstanding Members of the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) during the 2026 Annual General Meeting held on August 11, 2026.

This reflects EPMIโ€™s collective effort and commitment towards providing inclusive finance and excellent services to all stakeholders (staff, clients, partners).

The recognition was then followed by our participation in the MCPI Annual Conference on August 12โ€“13, attended by 4 Senior Managers and 2 Officers. The event brought together microfinance leaders, practitioners, policymakers, and development partners under the theme โ€œFrom Recovery to Resilience: Shaping the Next Chapter of Philippine Microfinance.โ€

The 2-day conference featured insightful discussions on the key challenges and opportunities shaping the future of microfinance, with the attendance of distinguished speakers and practitioners from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and various microfinance institutions, partners, and development organizations, providing participants with diverse perspectives and practical insights.

Through EPMI's participation, we continue to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the evolving microfinance sectorโ€”strengthening our commitment to building sustainable livelihoods and resilient communities while delivering meaningful financial and non-financial services to our clients.

We are also grateful to MCPI for the recognition and to our dedicated team whose continued efforts make EPMIโ€™s mission possible.

Growing food without soil? Yes, it's possible! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ง

On July 8 and 10, EPMI successfully conducted its Farmers' Training on Hydroponics Vegetable in Tanay, Rizal, and Infanta, Quezon, in partnership with Harbest Agribusiness Corporation. A total of 61 participants, comprising EPMI agri-clients and unit staff, attended the learning sessions to explore how hydroponics can unlock new opportunities for sustainable farming and generate additional sources of income.

Participants learned the fundamentals of hydroponic vegetable productionโ€”from its economic benefits and step-by-step cultivation process to the common challenges and practical solutions in establishing a hydroponic garden.

More than learning a new farming technique, the training promoted chemical-free, soilless, and climate-smart agriculture, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action by encouraging environmentally responsible food production.

The training also integrated discussions on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and Digital Scaling and Skilling (DSS) through the APPEND and Together for Good projects, reinforcing our commitment to building inclusive, empowered, and digitally equipped farming communities.

Together, we're cultivating not only healthier crops but also stronger, more resilient communitiesโ€”one farmer at a time.
