What’s the point of becoming successful if you lose your health, time, and freedom in the process?

This was one of the most important messages I shared during my talk, “True Wealth for Doctors,” at the historic Manila Hotel, in front of more than 1,000 attendees at a gathering of radiologists from across the Philippines.

As doctors, we spend our lives helping others become healthy. But sometimes, in our pursuit of success, we sacrifice our own health, family time, and personal freedom.

Because true wealth is not just about how much money we earn.

It’s about having the HEALTH to enjoy life, the TIME to be with people we love, the FREEDOM to make choices, and the PURPOSE to create meaningful impact.

I believe doctors deserve more than just a successful career.

We deserve a successful LIFE. ❤️

Grateful to be invited as a speaker at the 2026 Joint Annual Convention of the Ultrasound Society of the Philippines and CT-MRI Society of the Philippines, held today at the Manila Hotel. 🎤✨

My talk was entitled:

“True Wealth of Doctors: Designing a Life of Freedom, Purpose and Impact.”

As doctors, we spend so much of our lives caring for others, building our careers, and serving our patients.

But true wealth is more than income.

It’s having the freedom to choose, the purpose to keep going, and the opportunity to create an impact that goes beyond our profession.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this message with fellow physicians and remind ourselves that while we build successful careers, we can also intentionally build a life we truly want to live.

Here’s to creating not just successful doctors—but doctors who are also free, fulfilled, and purposeful.

This is what I call uncommon freedom. ❤️

They say, if you can bring your children to school, pick them up, and be present for their school activities, not just once in a while, but whenever it matters, you’ve already made it in life.

And I think I understand that more now.

Because success isn’t only about how much you earn, what title you have, or how busy your calendar looks.

Sometimes, success looks like having the freedom to be there.

To say, “I’ll take you to school.”
“I’ll pick you up.”
“I’ll watch you perform.”
“I’ll be there.”

No asking permission.
No choosing between income and family.
No constantly saying, “Sorry, I have work.”

Money gives you options.

But time freedom gives you your life back.

And for me, being present while my children are still young enough to want me there?

That’s an uncommon kind of wealth.

That’s uncommon freedom. ❤️

What kind of business can survive uncertainty, scale beyond borders, and continue solving real problems?

Right now, relying on one source of income or one local market is becoming increasingly risky. When the economy slows down, businesses that depend only on location, trends, or limited demand can easily struggle.

This is why I believe we need to become more intentional about the business we build.

Find a business that:

✅ Can scale into the global economy
✅ Provides solutions people genuinely need
✅ Can adapt and remain relevant even during a crisis
✅ Allows you to create income while making a meaningful impact

Because the strongest businesses are not simply built around products.

They are built around problems worth solving, people worth serving, and systems that can grow beyond you.

Hindi sapat na kumikita lang today. Build something that can create options, withstand change, and continue helping people for many years.

Have you ever noticed that financial stress doesn't just stay in your wallet?

Sometimes it follows you to bed.

And it's true.

But there's another truth we don't talk about enough.
When your finances are unhealthy, your peace of mind can suffer too.
The goal isn't to choose one over the other.

We spend years taking care of our careers.

Helping Doctors Create True Wealth Beyond the Clinic

I once walked these halls as an intern. Today, I came back as a speaker. 🥹

What a beautiful full-circle moment to return to Makati Medical Center, this time to share a message I deeply believe every doctor needs to hear: how to create true wealth and build passive income beyond medical practice.

As doctors, we are trained to save lives, but many of us were never taught how to build financial freedom.

We spend years developing our skills, yet our income often remains tied to our time, our schedules, and the number of patients we can personally see.

But what happens when we stop working?

True wealth is not simply earning more. It is building income streams, assets, and systems that continue working even when we are not.

Because doctors deserve more than a successful career. We deserve the freedom to spend time with our families, pursue our purpose, and create a greater impact without sacrificing our well-being.

Thank you to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of Makati Medical Center for inviting me to speak at the 10th Ariston G. Bautista Memorial Lecture.
