Green Finance, Innovation & Women’s Economic Empowerment.

At the AFI 2026 Global Policy Forum in Papua New Guinea, our CEO, Mr. Gunannidhi Dash shared an important message: financial inclusion is not simply about opening a bank account; it is about creating opportunities.

At Mama Bank, we believe women are not lacking potential; they are often lacking access. That is why we are taking a different approach- bringing banking closer to communities through trusted partnerships, simplified microfinance, financial literacy, technology, and innovative approaches to credit.

Our journey is also increasingly connecting women’s economic empowerment with green, blue, and climate-resilient finance, helping women build sustainable livelihoods and stronger businesses.

We are grateful to the Government of Papua New Guinea, Bank of Papua New Guinea, Green Finance Centre, AFI, and our development partners for creating an enabling environment for financial inclusion and responsible innovation.

We are honored to be part of the PNG Empower Finance Code as a Financial Institution supporting the Bank of Papua New Guinea through the Global Policy Forum Media Conference.

The workshops leading up to the CEO’s signing of the code show a strong commitment to empowering financial inclusion and eradicating financial abuse through the Bank's products and services. Our CEO, Mr. Gunannidhi Dash, joined elites of other FI’s as a guest speaker in the implementation of the “Tru-Tru” Microfinance Concept in PNG.

We will continue to support this program through staff training and community viability engagement in rural areas, with more emphasis on the PNG Empower Finance Code.

The bank continues to drive and empower financial inclusion.

We are deeply grateful and proud to receive the first tranche of the 2026 SME financing support from the National Government of Papua New Guinea.

An important step forward in our continued mission to expand access to finance for the informal sector, rural communities, MSMEs, and SMEs across the country. This support is more than financing- it is an investment in the aspirations, resilience, and potential of thousands of Papua New Guineans. It will help us reach underserved communities and provide accessible, flexible, affordable financial solutions to help people start, strengthen, and grow their businesses.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the National Government of Papua New Guinea, the Department of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Wake Goi, MP, Minister for Commerce and Industry, and the entire team for their continued confidence, partnership, and commitment towards inclusive economic development. This partnership reflects what we believe at Mama Bank: access to finance can improve livelihoods, create jobs, strengthen families, and build stronger local economies through a micro-finance model, reaching the unreached. With this support, we aim to reach 10,000 women entrepreneurs across the informal, MSME, and SME sectors, helping them improve their livelihoods, strengthen and grow their businesses.

A special note of appreciation to our Chairlady, Dr. Elizabeth Kopel, in the absence of our CEO, Gunannidhi Dash, for representing and receiving the cheque on behalf of the Bank. Our earnest gratitude also goes to our Board, Management, and every member of our dedicated staff across the country. Your commitment, hard work, and belief in the micro-financing model continue to make a meaningful difference in the social and economic lives of people across PNG. Together, we will continue to take finance closer to the people, from rural communities and informal markets to MSMEs and growing businesses, ensuring that access to easy and affordable financing reaches the last mile.

The journey continues!!

In recognition of the challenges faced by small businesses and underserved informal entrepreneurs, through the support of the National Government of Papua New Guinea, Mama Bank has started implementing a collaboration/partnership-based approach to make Access to Credit possible for the informal, micro, and Small Entrepreneurs across the country. As a women-focused microfinance institution, we are committed to expanding access to finance for those who need it most, especially women, youths, rural entrepreneurs, and informal businesses.

Through our IMSME, MSME & SME Loan products, we are offering:
✔️ Accessible and affordable financing
✔️ Flexible loan solutions tailored to real business needs
✔️ Opportunities to strengthen local value chains and livelihoods

We invite like-minded organizations to partner with us to build a better and workable ecosystem for the informal sector and micro and small enterprises, to improve their business and flourish.

We are calling on:

• Provincial/district level informal markets that have registered vendor associations and market management
• Church groups that are implementing women/youth economic empowerment activities
• Cooperatives that are actively engaged in Agri and Allied services
• NGOs that are bringing financial literacy to their beneficiaries
• Training Institutions that are providing skill training to the MSMEs/SMEs
• Value Chain Aggregators that are engaged in input materials and/or output commodities

If you are working with entrepreneurs, women’s groups, or local communities, we would love to explore how we can collaborate and extend this financing facility to those you serve.

Let’s work together to unlock opportunities and create lasting impact. Reach out to us to discuss partnership possibilities at [email protected]
