Our latest Market Intelligence Report shows that New Zealand’s business sales market continues to perform strongly.
Over the past 12 months, completed sales at ABC have lifted 21% to a record 514 transactions, while buyer demand remains robust with 26,774 confidentiality agreements signed (4% increase). At the same time, the average business sale price has increased 6% to $814k, and the average multiple has remained steady at 3.66x, suggesting values are holding firm.
There are also some interesting shifts taking place behind the numbers. Supply remains mixed, with ABC listings up 5% to 773, while TradeMe listings have eased 2% to 3,385.
The demographics are also telling a clear story: 64% of sellers are over 46, while 87% of buyers are under 55. We’re seeing a broader ownership transition too, with 67% of sellers being NZ European and 44% of new buyers coming from Asian, Indian, and other ethnic backgrounds.
Sector performance remains varied. Wholesale & Distribution now records the highest average sale price at $1.576m, followed by Agri Businesses at $1.357m, while Hospitality continues to be the most accessible with the lowest sector average price of $245k.
