Recently, the Bank of Namibia’s Financial Markets Department (FMD) hosted a bilateral engagement with the Deutsche Bundesbank to strengthen capacity in investment and international reserves management. The engagement formed part of the EU-funded European System of Central Banks (ESCB) programme with African central banks, which promotes knowledge exchange and institutional capacity building among participating central banks.
As part of the engagement, FMD hosted two Financial Markets experts from the Deutsche Bundesbank, Torsten Rothe, Head of Foreign Reserve Management Section and Kim Robin Erhart , Senior Portfolio Manager, for three days of technical discussions and knowledge exchange. The sessions brought together strategic reserve management concepts and practical portfolio management applications, covering reserve management governance, strategic and tactical asset allocation, liquidity management, benchmark design, performance attribution, credit analysis and risk management.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for the Bank’s Financial Markets team to exchange experiences with their Bundesbank counterparts and gain further insights into operational processes and international reserve management practices. Through partnerships such as these, the Bank continues to strengthen the capabilities of its Financial Markets Department and advance sound international practices in the prudent management of Namibia’s international reserves.
