A package of measures aimed at supporting start-ups and business founders has been unveiled in today's Budget.

The Chancellor has announced a new trading allowance increase, raising the amount people can earn from a new venture tax-free from £1,000 to £3,000. There's also a new Young Entrepreneurs Allowance, designed to help cover living costs while founders turn their ideas into businesses.

Support for female-led businesses is also set to grow, with the British Business Bank doubling its commitment to women-led business funds to £200 million.

Perhaps the biggest announcement for founders is a new Founders' Relief, offering a 10% tax rate on lifetime gains up to £10 million for the founders of Britain's most successful businesses.

Big changes are coming for aspiring homeowners.

The Chancellor has announced that the Lifetime ISA (LISA) will be replaced by a new First Time Buyer ISA, alongside plans to reform the current withdrawal penalty. Under the new approach, if a property exceeds the scheme's purchase price limit, buyers will receive back at least the amount they contributed.

The Government has also unveiled the Your First Home Scheme, aimed at helping first-time buyers who don't have access to financial support from family. Launching next spring, the scheme will provide £4.7bn of government-backed equity loans to help more people get onto the property ladder.

The Chancellor has confirmed that the tax-free Cash ISA allowance will remain at £20,000 per year, meaning individuals can continue to save up to this amount without paying tax on the interest earned.

Looking ahead, the Government will also work with the financial services sector on a new "Starter ISA", aimed at making saving and investing more accessible for those getting started.

The Chancellor has announced changes to Business Asset Disposal Relief (BADR), reducing the lifetime threshold from £1 million to £500,000.

According to the Government, the change has been designed to raise revenue in a "balanced way", with the Chancellor stating that three in four claimants will see no change to the relief available to them.

Business owners planning an exit or sale may wish to review how these changes could affect their future tax position.

Support for high street businesses is on the way.

The Chancellor has announced that the small business rate relief threshold for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses will increase from £12,000 to £18,000. As a result, around 70,000 businesses will be taken out of paying business rates altogether.

The move is designed to help businesses invest, recruit and grow, while providing a boost to high streets across the UK.

Further support for households has been announced in today's Budget.

The Chancellor has confirmed a new £100 Household Energy Payment for this winter, with around 20 million households in Council Tax Bands A-D set to receive the payment directly into their bank accounts to help with rising energy costs.

With the scheme expected to cost £2.6 billion, it represents a significant package of support as households head into the colder months. ❄️⚡

More help with household energy costs has been announced in today's Budget.

The Chancellor has confirmed that the VAT cut on electricity bills will be extended until July, a move expected to reduce the annual energy price cap by around £50. He also reaffirmed that the gas standing charge will be removed from next year, with similar reforms for electricity planned to follow.

For households feeling the impact of rising energy costs, these measures could provide some welcome relief through the winter and beyond.
