The lifetime limit for Entrepreneurs’ Relief (also known as Business Asset Disposal Relief) on Capital Gains Tax when selling a business will be halved from £1 million to £500,000 from April 2027, alongside a new Founders Relief which the Government is consulting on.

On 1 April 2027 the National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates will all rise by 3.9 per cent. This will take the main rate of NLW to £13.21 per hour. The hourly minimum wage for 18 to 20-year-olds will rise to £11.27, and for 16 to 17-year-olds and eligible apprentices it will be £8.31. The accommodation offset will also rise by 3.9 per cent to £11.53.

Plans requiring even the smallest businesses to submit full profit-and-loss accounts to Companies House from April 2028 have been stopped .The proposals would have added significant red tape and duplicated information already provided to HMRC.

Higher tax-free mileage rates will be made permanent. Most self-employed people using their vehicle for business will be able to claim an increased relief of 55p per mile on their first 10,000 miles. From April 2027, the mileage rate over 10,000 miles a year will increase from 25p per mile to 35p per mile

The tax-free Trading Allowance will rise from £1,000 to £3,000 from 6 April 2027 .The change will give budding entrepreneurs and people with side hustles more room to test and develop a business idea before facing additional tax and administration.
