We are delighted to say that Andrej Šircelj, Minister of Finance for the Government of the Republic of Slovenia will be speaking in Istanbul this November at Global Banking & Markets: CEE, Central Asia & Türkiye.
In 2005, he was appointed State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, with a mandate at the Ministry of Finance. During this period, he helped shape Slovenia's economic and financial policy. He led key government projects in the areas of banking, finance and infrastructure, cooperated with many international institutions, such as the European Union, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the OECD, and led projects in the fields of finance and taxation during Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Between 2008 and 2009, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank. From 2009 to 2011, he served as an adviser to the President of the Management Board at Gorenjska banka Kranj.
He was first elected Deputy to the National Assembly in 2011, and was subsequently re-elected in 2014 and 2018. During this time, he chaired the Committee on Finance and Monetary Policy and the Commission for Public Finance Control, and was a member of the Constitutional Commission and the Committee on Foreign Policy. He also headed the Slovenian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
From 2020 to 2022, he served as Minister of Finance in the 14th Government of the Republic of Slovenia. In this capacity, he chaired the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) during Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the EU.
