It has been a mixed week of ongoing discussions with lenders, working through requirements and refining proposals as opportunities progress. As ever, persistence and clear communication remain key when navigating transactions from initial enquiry through to completion. What we are really trying to say is that it feels that we have been desk bound!

That said Andy and Steve have been out meeting both existing clients, prospects and lenders.

On the networking front, Andy attended TRUST Networking, where Philip Williams of Boston Spa Legal delivered an excellent and informative presentation on the origins of Trusts. It was a valuable session, providing both historical context and practical insight into an area that continues to play an important role in business and personal planning.

A productive and well-balanced week overall, combining deal progression, client engagement, and professional development.

Have a cracking weekend ☀️☀️☀️

One of the first questions business owners ask when looking for finance is whether poor credit will stop them getting approved.

Sometimes the concern comes from a missed payment a few years ago. Sometimes it is a recent issue. County court judgments, bounced payments, tax arrears or a difficult trading period can all leave business owners assuming finance is no longer an option.

In reality, the situation is usually more nuanced than that. Read our blog 'Do I Need Good Credit To Get Business Funding?' to delve deeper: https://bit.ly/4ofVvRz

Steve has once again achieved the unthinkable and left Sheffield – this time venturing all the way down to Essex for a site visit with a customer progressing a development, alongside the lender lined up to fund it. Early reports suggest he kept asking if “this is still the North?” somewhere around Northampton.

Meanwhile, Andy has been making up for it on the road in his own way, chalking up customer visits across Yorkshire – from Hull to Bradford, Ripon to York. Not quite Essex mileage, but solid ground covered nonetheless.

Wednesday morning also saw Andy take a slightly unconventional “pit stop” - setting up shop in Amity Brew Co's taproom (pictured). Strictly business, of course… although going from Teams calls in a brewery to drinks in Leeds later in the week did make for a fairly seamless transition.

In between that, Andy attended TRUST Networking where Jon Kent from The Butler Ridge Group in Wetherby delivered a brilliant presentation. It was great to hear how they genuinely do things differently – not just selling homes, but making sure they look better, run better, and ultimately achieve the right outcome for clients.

Andy was invited to Summer Drinks in Leeds yesterday hosted by Lloyds Bank’s dynamic duo Charlotte Jackson & Lindsay Crooks – the outdoor space looked great, but thanks to some classic British summertime weather 🌧️, it wasn’t exactly in high demand.

All in all, a strong week of getting out, meeting people, and keeping things moving - whether that’s across the country or just between a laptop and a well-placed pint.

VAT bills don't have to mean a big hit to your cash flow 💷

We work with lenders who can pay your VAT bill directly to HMRC, helping you avoid late-payment interest or penalties. You then simply spread the cost over three months, keeping more working capital available for day-to-day operations and growth.

Just last week, we helped several clients secure funding for VAT bills - allowing them to protect cash flow and stay focused on what they do best.

If you'd rather keep your cash working for your business than see it disappear in one lump sum, let's have a conversation. Get in touch to explore your options 👇

Andy & Steven have been out and about this week – with Steve once again bravely leaving the safety of Sheffield.

We’re told the journey to the South West was completed without incident, although he’s still recovering from the culture shock.

The pair were spotted in Bristol, taking in the views by the Clifton Suspension Bridge before heading over to spend time with Jack and the team at Salboy Capital at their latest property roadshow. A great event, made even better by attending alongside a number of clients who are gearing up for their own developments – plenty of good conversations and exciting plans in the pipeline.

Earlier in the week, Andy kicked things off in slightly more civilised fashion with a catch-up lunch with Adrian Hogarth at the impressive Drivers Club at Bowcliffe Hall – not a bad setting to start the week. This was followed by a trip into Leeds for a catch-up with Mark Hodgett at Banyan, which turned into something of a mini reunion when Jake Smedley dropped in on his way out.

Always nice when these things happen organically.

Back at TRUST Networking, there was a strong focus on the realities of running a business – sharing experiences, leaning on each other for support, and having some honest conversations about the ups and downs. The big theme was how we can collectively do more to support other businesses locally… and there’s definitely more to come on that front. If you’re curious about what that looks like, you know where we are – come along and see for yourself.

All in all, a week of travel, catch-ups, and building momentum (with Steve now safely back within his preferred radius).

Have a great weekend 👍

Access to business finance remains one of the biggest challenges for UK businesses in 2026 – not because funding doesn’t exist, but because most business owners don’t know what’s actually available to them.

When cashflow tightens or a growth opportunity appears, the instinct is to call the bank. The same bank you’ve been with for fifteen years. The one that holds your business current account and knows your turnover. Seems logical. Often it’s the worst place to start.

Take a look at our recent article 'Beyond Your Bank: Understanding Your Real Funding Options in 2026' and understand more: https://bit.ly/3PPXL5p

Another short working week, this week, but there has been no shortage of activity…

We’ve managed to get a couple of client completions over the line 🎉 – always a good feeling, especially when the calendar’s been chopped in half by half term and bank holiday leftovers. Momentum has been maintained though.

On the networking front, it was great to see TRUST Networking hand over a cheque to The Jordan Legacy. Andy was otherwise occupied (half term duties calling), but it was nice to play a small part and contribute to such a worthwhile cause.

Meanwhile, Steve continues to stay very much on brand by… not leaving Sheffield… or did he? At this point, we’re starting to think he might need a passport for anything beyond Meadowhall. That said, he did go above and beyond this week and did help a fellow B2B member for local charity, Sheffield Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and their summer party which was held at the New York Stadium in Rotherham. The charity’s Nina Rose persuaded Steve to be their rather large fox mascot.

With the weather doing its best impression of the Med, we can confirm that wearing a full fox suit in the heat is not an experience Steve is in a rush to repeat. All for a brilliant cause though – and fair play to him! It was nice to see fellow B2B members Dan Willers and Margaret Wood there too.

All in all, a short but productive week – deals done, good causes supported, and only mild heat-related mascot trauma reported.

Have a great weekend all 👍

What a Week!!

Andy started the week with a round of golf organised by Dave Young with Andy Horsfield and Anna Pickup – Andy was on Anna's team and unfortunately lost the matchplay in a tight match. In what was another day of four seasons in a few hours friendships were cemented and deals discussed.

Tuesday to Thursday was UKREiiF. Steven made it to Leeds three days running, which tells you the quality of conversations happening. Andy and Steve caught up with Piragash, Steve's old colleague who's now running Lumora Capital – always good to see people you've known for years doing well in their own ventures an even better when they put on an excellent drinks event!

Wednesday on was the YBS drinks event. Barry Dillon and Michelle Lowe hosted a solid room full of lenders and contacts. Those events are worth their weight – you learn more about what's actually happening in the market in two hours than you do reading updates for a month.

On Thursday morning at TRUST Networking , James Naylor updated us on Alfie's Legacy, Remembering Alfie Naylor - Fund Raising for CRY, raising funds on behalf of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). Trust Networking has given £2,500 to screen young adults for undiagnosed heart conditions. This puts the week's deals and conversations into perspective.

We are back in the office today catching up on everything. Rest assured, Steve's recovering in Sheffield.

Have a good long weekend!
