On Friday, I spoke with a business owner who had been considering whether to move from being self-employed to operating through a limited company.

Like many business owners, he had questions:

• Is it worth it?
• What are the tax benefits?
• What are the downsides?
• How would it affect the way the business operates?
• Is now the right time?

After a quick chat and a detailed breakdown of the numbers, we were able to compare both options and look at the potential impact on the business moving forward.

Once the figures were laid out clearly, the decision became much easier.

Quick update — I’m away in Benidorm for the weekend with the football boys 🍻☀️

I’ll still be checking messages where I can, but replies may be a little slower than normal. I’ll be fully back on Tuesday and straight back into onboarding, client work and getting through the waiting list.

The new tax year is now underway, and for many businesses it’s the ideal time to get everything organised properly from the start.

With the upcoming Making Tax Digital (MTD) changes, more people will soon need to keep digital records and submit updates using compatible software such as Xero or similar systems.

Key MTD deadlines currently announced:
• Already in place – VAT-registered businesses must follow MTD for VAT rules using compatible software
• From April 2026 – Self-employed individuals and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000
• From April 2027 – Those with qualifying income over £30,000
• Further thresholds are expected to follow after this.

Leaving it until the last minute can create unnecessary stress, so now is the best time to prepare, get systems in place and understand how it affects you.

Whether you’re self-employed, CIS, a landlord or running a limited company, I can help get everything set up correctly and keep things running smoothly throughout the year.
