⚓ Back in June, our Business Development and Marketing Executive, Kiran, attended the Gravesham Business Network event on board the Nao Victoria, moored at Town Pier, Gravesend.

Local MP Lauren Sullivan joined the group to speak and answer questions, and Kiran had the opportunity to tell attendees more about Gravesham Friendly and what we do for our members.

We always value opportunities like this to connect with the local community and other Gravesham businesses. Thanks to Keith Grimley at Gravesham Borough Council for the invite and for organising the event.

At Gravesham Friendly, we're always looking at ways to make membership work harder for you. 💙

That's why we've made some big improvements to what you can claim, and when:

✅ Claim on Dental, Optical, MME, Hospital stays and maternity grants after just 3 months (previously 12)
✅ Education, home energy and first-time buyer grants now available after 1 year (previously 2)
✅ No more individual category limits on optical, dental and MME - use more of your pot where you need it most
✅ New pot limits for months 4-12, so you're covered sooner
✅ Optical, dental and MME claims for live sickness members now paid at 75% of your invoice value (up from 50%)

Back in April, we had the pleasure of joining the Vaisakhi celebrations in Gravesend and spending the day at the Mela, meeting so many wonderful people from our local community.

As part of the day, we ran a simple fundraiser - for every new follower we gained across our social media channels, we pledged to donate £1 to GNDG Wellbeing Centre.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit the centre, meet some of the incredible seniors who attend regularly, and present a donation of £150.

It was truly heartwarming to see the impact the centre has on its members, many of whom attend up to five days a week. The centre provides a welcoming space that helps combat loneliness, encourages social connection and plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing of older members of our local Sikh community.

At Gravesham Friendly, supporting local initiatives that strengthen our community is something we deeply value, and GNDG Wellbeing Centre is a fantastic example of this in action.

Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s important to recognise the growing impact mental health is having across UK workplaces 💚

According to the Office for National Statistics, an estimated 148.8 million working days were lost to sickness or injury across the UK in 2025, with mental health conditions accounting for 8.9% of all sickness absence cases.

In the Civil Service alone, mental ill-health was the largest cause of long-term sickness absence in 2025, responsible for nearly half of all long-term absences.

At Gravesham Friendly, eligible members signed off work due to mental health may be able to claim up to £250 per week through their income protection benefit. Members may also be able to use discretionary benefits towards therapy and wellbeing support.

Providing financial support during recovery can help reduce additional stress and provide greater stability during difficult periods.

What a special day at the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan 💛

It was a real privilege to be part of such a meaningful celebration in the Sikh calendar and to spend the day meeting so many people from our wonderful community.

As part of our community giveback initiative, we were proud to be there, connect with families, and share in the spirit of Vaisakhi together.

We’ll be sharing how much we’ve raised later this week - every bit of support makes a difference. And if we can grow our community here a little more, it simply means we can give a little more back too 💙

A slightly late one from us, but still just as heartfelt… Happy Vaisakhi to all those celebrating 🌼

We hope everyone had a joyful and blessed Vaisakhi filled with happiness, prosperity and togetherness.

The celebrations continue this weekend at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Gravesend Dharmic Mela and we’re excited to be taking part on Saturday at:
